Tariq Ali: Arab League pathetic, works as West’s NGO
The head of the Arab League observer mission in Syria has described the situation in the restive city of Homs as “reassuring so far”.
The flashpoint city was the monitors’ first stop to investigate the government’s response to the anti-regime unrest. Their arrival was met by a massive demonstration, with tens of thousands demanding international protection. RT talks to author and Middle East expert Tariq Ali who’s in London.

The ongoing situation in Syria looks set to dominate those talks in Moscow. In the latest development, tens of thousands of people have taken to the streets of Syria’s third-largest city of Homs, demanding international protection. It happened after the Arab League’s monitoring team visited the area. The observers mission is to assess the situation in the country, and ensure President Assad’s compliance with a regional plan to end the bloodshed.
