Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN Dr.Bashar al-Jaafari said that President of the UN General Assembly, Qatar’s Ambassador to the UN Nassir Abdul Aziz al-Nasser had ordered TV broadcast cut at the start of his speech, although the session was supposedly open to media.

In a statement to SANA via phone from New York, al-Jaafari said that the conduct of al-Nasser proves his plotting and lack of objectivity and attempt to obstruct a solution to the crisis in Syria, adding that today’s session was an attempt to decrease the chances of making a success of Kofi Annan’s mission to which the Syrian leadership agreed.

”Al-Nasser was not in the least interested in ending violence in Syria as he claimed to be, ” said al-Jaafari, ”especially that he refused to observe a minute of silence in honor of the Syrian martyrs and overstepped his powers and used the meeting to push Qatar’s and Saudi Arabia’s agendas.”

”The conduct of the Qatari ambassador, who denied me a point of order to ask Annan a question, is unprecedented in its overstepping the observed procedures at the UN General Assembly sessions, which many ambassadors saw as a proof of Qatar’s interference in the work of the General Assembly and using it as a platform for interference in the Syrian affairs,” added Dr. al-Jaafari.

Dr. Al-Jaafari described al-Nasser’s conduct as shameful that will go down as a sigma in the UN archives. Al-Jaafari added that al-Nasser gave a negative statement that contradicted the positive opinions concerning Annan’s mission.
