Syria’s Youth Football Team Defeats Saudi Counterpart in Group Stage of 2012 AFC U-19 Championship
Nov 04, 2012 – The Syrian youth football team began its participation in the 2012 AFC U-19 Championship group stage matches held in the UAE with a major win against Saudi Arabia, defeating the Saudi team 5-1 in their match on Sunday in Fujairah stadium.
Syrian player Mohammad al-Mawwas scored three goals at the 8, 14 and 69 minute marks, with Adnan al-Taqqi scoring at the 10 minutes mark, and Samer al-Salem at the 87 minutes mark, while the only Saudi goal was scored by Ahmad al-Shahri at the 30 minutes mark.
With this win, the Syrian team ranks first in Group D, tying with Australia with 3 points each but leading in number of goals, with Qatar in third place with zero points and conceding 1 goal and Saudi Arabia in fourth place with zero points and conceding 5 goals.
The second match for the Syrian team is due to be held on Tuesday, when it will face Australia.
The final match in the group stage will be against Qatar on Thursday.
