NEW YORK, UN, (SANA) – The UN on Tuesday reiterated calls to Israel to comply with the UN resolution on the occupied Syrian Golan, particularly UN Security resolution No 497 for the year 1981.

Resolution 497 considers Israel’s decision to impose its laws and procedures on the occupied Syrian Golan as null and void.

The UN General Assembly adopted the “The Occupied Syrian Golan” resolution by an overwhelming majority, as 168 countries voted in favor of the resolution.

Israel voted against the resolution, while the USA, Canada and 9 other countries abstained from voting.

The resolution demands Israel to cancel its decision of annexing the Golan, considering the Israeli administrative and legislative procedures to change the Syrian Golan identity as null and void as well as a flagrant violation of the international law and Geneva Convention on Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War.

It also demanded Israel to stop imposing the Israeli nationality and the Israeli identity cards on the Syrians in Golan and halt the repressive measures against the Syrian citizens in the occupied Syrian Golan.

The resolution denounced the Israeli violations of the Geneva Convention on Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, reiterating calls for member states not to recognize any measures taken by Israel in Golan which contradict international laws.
