President Bashar al-Assad on Wednesday issued Legislative Decree No. 3 for 2013 on establishing the National Center for Curriculum Development.
The Center, which will be based in Damascus, aims to develop the school curriculum in light of the latest scientific, educational and social developments and continue assessment and adjustment of curriculum.
The objectives of the Center can be mainly summed up in proposing the general goals of education in light of the educational policy of the state, designing curricula for the various stages, developing school curriculum in light of the latest scientific, educational, social and technical developments, continuous assessment and adjustment of curriculum and creating a question bank to be used in general tests in coordination with the Evaluation and Assessment Center.
The President also issued Legislative Decree No. 4 for 2013 stipulating for the establishment of the Educational Evaluation and Assessment Center with its headquarters in Damascus.
The Center is aimed at developing the educational process and setting the educational patterns in the field of evaluation and assessment to keep up with the Arab and international patterns.
The Center will also provide training and qualification and research services for people who work in the field of educational assessment and efficiency standards at the government and civil educational establishments.
To achieve these goals, the Center will work on participating in international evaluation projects such as Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS), Progress in International Reading Literacy Survey (PIRLS) and the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) to assess educational cultivation and thinking and language skills.
