Apr 22, 2013 – DAMASCUS – President Bashar al-Assad on Monday received a delegation from the Iranian Shoura Council, headed by Chairman of the Foreign Policy and National Security Committee at the Shoura Council, Alaeddin Boroujerdi.
The two sides held constructive talks, with the Iranian delegation posing a number of parliamentary ideas and suggestions that serve the interests of the region’s countries, primarily Syria.
President al-Assad affirmed that Syria welcomes and is prepared for cooperation with Iran in this field and other fields that bolster fraternity among the region’s people.
President al-Assad stressed that parliaments are the true representatives of the people and their voice, which makes it the parliaments’ duties to defend the people they represent.
His Excellency pointed out that what is happening currently in the region constitutes plots that target its stability and territorial integrity, which requires parliaments to coordinate more and unite efforts to confronts the enemies of their people.
For their part, members of the Iranian delegation reaffirmed Iran’s support for the political program for resolving the crisis in Syria and its rejection of the policies of some regional and global countries which seek to escalate the situation in Syria by supporting terrorism, stressing that this poses great risks not just to Syrians, but also the people of the region and the world.
They affirmed the Iranian people’s commitment to continue supporting the Syrian people in the face of the attack targeting it.
