Confirmed: Armed groups committed crimes against humanity in Lattakia
Human Rights Watch (HRW) described the crimes committed by the armed terrorist groups against villagers in the northern countryside of Lattakia in early August, which claimed many civilians, mostly women and children, as crimes against humanity.
The AFP quoted Joe Stork, Deputy Director for Middle East and North Africa at the HRW as saying “These abuses were not the actions of rogue fighters…This operation was a coordinated, planned attack on the civilian population.”
A 105-page report of the HRW issued Friday reviewed the crimes against the villages perpetrated by the “armed opposition” based on an investigation conducted during a visit to the area in which 35 witnesses were interviewed.
“The evidence strongly suggests that the killings, hostage taking, and other abuses committed by opposition forces on and after August 4 rise to the level of crimes against humanity,” the report said.
Human Rights Watch said at least 67 slain by the armed groups were killed at close range or while trying to flee.
“Eight survivors and witnesses described how opposition forces executed residents and opened fire on civilians, sometimes killing or attempting to kill entire families who were either in their homes unarmed or fleeing from the attack, and at other times killing adult male family members, and holding the female relatives and children hostage,” the report added.
HRW said about 20 opposition groups took part in the crimes and that five were involved in the attacks on civilians – Jabhat al-Nusra, the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS), both affiliated to al-Qaeda, Jaysh al-Muhajirin wa al-Ansar, Ahrar al-Sham and Suqour al-Izz.

God save the syrian army!!! Mr Bassar all big towns and villages, has to be militarized with his own residents, to permit them to protect their homes and lives., Each time the terrorists arrive to pression the population, they will be fighted nt the popular army of each village of town, till the arriving of the special forces, transportted by helicopter, to sorround the terrorists, and also being attached by figting helicopters.(last sussian model ),.Burn them all these terrorists outside towns, to avoid the destruction of them.. Syrian must engage a popular patriotic army able to menace the zionnistes of Israel, and the pró-sionnists ofTurkey.
