Moscow, (SANA) – Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Mikhail Bogdanov, expressed his country’s welcome of the Syrian government’s decision to participate in the international conference on Syria, Geneva 2, without preconditions.


The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement after Bogdanov’s meeting with Syria’s Ambassador to Russia, Riyad Haddad, on Thursday that the Russian side welcomes the Syrian Foreign Ministry’s statement issued on 27th November, adding that the statement “proves the Syrian government’s intentions to send a delegation to Geneva 2 for talks without preconditions.”

The Russian Foreign Ministry’s statement stressed that issues related to the invitation for the conference, due to be held on 22nd of January, were discussed during Bogdanov-Haddad meeting.

“Bogdanov briefed the Syrian side on the latest round of the tripartite consultations between Russia, the USA and the UN on 25th November in Geneva dedicated for preparing for Geneva 2,” the statement added.
