Moscow, (SANA) -Russian Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov affirmed that Moscow has information proving the existence of many foreigners fighting with the armed terrorist groups in Syria.
Russia Today Website quoted Antonov as saying in a press conference on Friday ” According to our information, there are many foreigners fighting in Syria, but sometimes it seems that some of those do not realize where are they fighting or for what purpose …. The most important thing is that they get money in return.”
He warned against the return of the Europeans fighting in Syria to their home countries.
He described the Middle East region as a “powder keg”, adding that any reckless act could lead to exploding the situation and destabilizing the global and regional stability.
Earlier in an article published by New York Times paper, Russia President Vladimir Putin warned of arming the armed terrorist groups in Syria, affirming that what is happening in Syria is not a war for democracy but it is a confrontation between the government and armed extremists, including “Jabhat al-Nusra” and ” Islamic State in Iraq and al-Sham” which were blacklisted by the US.
Putin added that not only Arab mercenaries are fighting in Syria, but there are also hundreds of “fighters” coming from western countries and Russia as well.
Russian Foreign Ministry: Lavrov to discuss crisis in Syria in Russia-NATO meeting
Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday said that Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, will discuss the crisis in Syria during the Russia-NATO council meeting due to be held in Brussels in December 4th.
RT website quoted the Ministry as saying that the participants will discuss urgent issues related to security in the Atlantic area and security risks and threats.
