Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov said that Russia calls upon the USA and all other countries that have influence on the situation in Syria to hold communications with all sides in Syria except for terrorists.

In a press release in Moscow after a meeting with the coalition delegation so-called “opposition”, Lavrov said “We encourage our American and European partners, as well as the region’s countries to take such an approach. We are convinced that they also should work together with all of the sides in the Syrian conflict. I certainly mean political sides, not terrorist ones”.

Earlier, Lavrov called for unifying international efforts as to solve the crisis in Syria, stressing that Moscow supports the dialogue that started in Geneva and considers that all spectra of the opposition should be represented in the coming discussions in order to make the conference a success.

Gatilov: Geneva talks on Syria should not focus on one issue

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Ginadi Gatilov said that Moscow suggested that the Syrian government and the opposition form specialized work teams to discuss the key issues in the framework of Geneva talks.

In an interview with Russia Ria Novosti News Agency published on Tuesday, Gatilov added that an agreement on a number of issues, such as fire cessation, humanitarian issues and the formation of a transitional body should be reached for finding a solution to the crisis in Syria.

He asserted that solving those issues requires the formation of specialized work teams, adding “We should move forwards on several tracks at the same time.”

In a relevant context, Alexei Borodavkin, Russia’s permanent representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva stressed that the illegal armed terrorist groups active on the Syrian ground represent the biggest threat to Syria and the region.

Borodavkin told RT news channel that all parties should work for unifying the potentials of the Syrian government and the opposition to counter terrorism.

He added that Russia will help intensifying the upcoming talks in Geneva between the Syrian government and the opposition to be more positive and re-structure these talks through the formation of work teams for solving various issues.
