Syrian Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Walid al-Moallem: “This aggression stresses once again reality of the Zionist entity‘s direct involvement in backing and supporting terrorist groups and proves beyond any doubt the extent of existing coordination between Zionist enemy and those groups”.
Damascus, 6 March 2014 – Foreign and Expatriates Ministry sent Wednesday two identical letters to UN Secretary General and President of Security Council saying that in a new, flagrant violation of the disengagement agreement of 1974, the UN charter and the international law rules, the Zionist enemy launched at 6 AM four missiles from al-Sateh hill and al-Khwein in Golan toward the school and mosque of al-Hamidiyeh area and fired at 6:30 AM four tank shells towards al-Hurriyeh site in addition to opening fire by medium-sized machineguns toward al-Hamidiyeh site at 7:10 AM.
Seven members of the Internal Security Forces and four civilians were injured in Israeli aggression.
“This aggression stresses once again reality of the Zionist entity’s direct involvement in backing and supporting terrorist groups and proves beyond any doubt the extent of existing coordination between Zionist enemy and those groups,” Foreign Ministry said in the two letters.
It added it became crystal clear that Israel doesn’t slacken to directly interfere in support of its tools of terrorist groups to loosen pressure on them whenever it finds need for that, turning a blind eye to the repercussions of its hostile behavior, on top, destabilizing situation and creating atmospheres of escalation and tension in the disengagement zone and its surroundings.
“The government of Syrian Arab Republic, while submitting those events to Security Council, calls it to condemn the Israeli aggression as a violation of the Disengagement agreement and international law rules as well as an escalation of tension atmospheres, a state of disorder in the disengagement zone and its surroundings,” the letter said.
Foreign Ministry affirmed that continuation of a number of Security Council permanent members to provide protection to Israel from punishment for its hostile behavior and violation of the relevant Security Council resolutions, through the Council’s prevention of taking any procedure that could condemn Israel for its repeated aggressions, would weaken the Council’s credibility as an authority responsible for keeping international peace and security.
It went on to say that Syria asserts again its demand to Security Council to impose implementation of its relevant resolutions, particularly No. 242, 338 and 497 which reject the Israeli occupation of the Syrian Golan and call for the Israeli withdrawal from the occupied Arab territories, including the occupied Syrian Golan , into the line of June 4th, 1967.
Foreign Ministry called for issuing this letter as a formal document of Security Council and the General Assembly’s documents under the relevant items.
Earlier, a military source said the General Command of the Army and Armed Forces “affirms that such acts of aggression won’t discourage it from continuing its missions of chasing and eliminating armed terrorist groups, it warns of the consequences of getting involved in such ventures and of testing our combat capabilities”.
