Middle East expert Michael Lüders discusses the situation in the northern Syrian town of Kobani (or Ayn al-Arab), and how the Turkish government is responding to the “Islamic State” (IS, aka ISIL or ISIS) threat on its border by secretly helping the terrorist group to deal a heavy blow to the Kurds.

He also says that the Syrian government is being boosted by ISIL’s growth as it is increasingly seen as the only force on the ground in Syria that is capable of fighting ISIL.
