Tehran, 15/12/2014 – Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi started on Monday an official visit to Iran heading a government delegation.

Upon his arrival at Tehran Mehrabad International Airport, the Premier said that the visit comes within the framework of the growing and booming Syrian-Iranian cooperation in economic, trade, industrial, health, and development sectors.

He noted that new cooperation prospects will be discussed in order to enhance the steadfastness of the Syrian people in the face of the economic war and the unjust blockade imposed on the country.

Al-Halqi added that this can be achieved through the Iranian credit line and the implementation of joint development projects as well as the participation of Iranian companies in the reconstruction stage in Syria.

He highlighted the growing role of the resistance in the region and unity between the Syrian people and the army which foiled western schemes and preserved Syria’s dignity and sovereignty, expressing gratitude to Syria’s friends, particularly the people and the leadership of Iran and mainly the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ali Khamenei and President Hassan Rouhani for their stances.

Premier al-Halqi stressed that fighting terrorism requires unifying the efforts of all the countries of the world and international organizations to face this phenomenon, along with preventing certain countries from providing logistic, financial, and military support to terrorists or harboring them and their extremist and criminal mentality.

The Syrian delegation included Ministers of Electricity, Industry, Oil and Mineral Resources and Health, Governor of Syria’s Central Bank and Chairperson of the International Cooperation and Planning Commission, as well as a number of general directors.

The Premier and the accompanying delegation are scheduled to hold meetings and talks with senior Iranian officials that are aimed at developing and broadening the scopes of bilateral cooperation and coordination between Syria and Iran, according to the Cabinet’s press office.

The visit is expected to last several days.
