Al-Jazeera’s interview with the leader of Al-Nusra Front terrorist group Mohamad al-Golani

Fars News Agency 28/5/2015 ~ Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN Bashar al-Jafari said that Al-Jazeera’s interview with the leader of Al-Nusra Front terrorist group Mohamad al-Golani violated UN counterterrorism resolutions and was aimed at encouraging terrorism.

“The interview was used to promote terrorism and make threats to the government and people in Syria,” al-Jafari said, addressing a meeting of the UN Security Council in New York on Thursday.

Al-Jafari’s remarks came after the Qatari-funded television network broadcast the first part of an interview with al-Golani late on Wednesday.

“It is clear that the Qatari regime is seeking to clean up the image of the Nusra Front through this interview with the head of a terrorist group that has been blacklisted by the UN Security Council,” he added.

In his interview Golani said members of the Alawite sect, of which President Bashar Assad is a member, should renounce the Syrian leader, their beliefs and lay down weapons in order to be safe.

It was not clear where and when the interview was filmed. Golani’s face was not shown and a black flag used by Nusra Front was placed on a table between him and the interviewer.

Nusra Front is listed as a terrorist organization by the United States and has been sanctioned by the UN Security Council.

In March, a senior Syrian dissident politician underlined that the militant groups backed by Qatar and Turkey have rejected a proposal by the UN special envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, which seeks to suspend fighting in the Arab country’s embattled Northern city of Aleppo.

“Qatar and Turkey are rejecting political solutions to the Syrian crisis in a bid to dispatch more militants to the Arab country under the US auspices and in view of the advances made by the Syrian army,” Secretary-General of Syria’s Democratic Party Ahmad Kousa told FNA.

He underlined that the militant groups fighting in Aleppo are not after occupying political posts as they are only resolved to do their mission.

“When de Mistura proposed his truce plan to suspend the fights specially in Aleppo city, the attention of the international and regional circles focused on the militant groups fighting in Syria, but those groups will never accept the UN truce plan,” Kousa said.
