Yemeni forces kill 70 Saudi-backed militants in Abyan Province
At least 70 Saudi-backed militants have been killed in an attack by the Yemeni army, backed by popular committees, on their hideouts in the southern province of Abyan, local media reports say.
According to Yemen’s al-Masirah television network, fighters of the Houthi Ansarullah movement and allied Yemeni army units managed to kill several militants fighting for Yemen’s fugitive former president, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, in the city of Zinjibar, the capital of Abyan, on Saturday.
The militants, backed by Saudi air cover, were repelled and forced to retreat from the troubled region in the face of strong resistance by the Yemeni forces. Saudi warplanes reportedly conducted nearly 200 airstrikes to target military as well as civilian targets across the troubled region during the fierce fighting.
UAE soldiers killed
Meanwhile, a landmine explosion resulted in the death of at least three Emirati soldiers who were fighting along the pro-Saudi militants. The explosion took place on a highway between Abyan and Aden in southern Yemen.
The United Arab Emirates’ Defense Ministry has confirmed that at least 20 Emirati soldiers have so far been killed across Abyan over the past few weeks.
Since March 26, Saudi Arabia has been pounding various areas in Yemen – without a UN mandate. The military aggression is meant to undermine the Houthi fighters and restore Hadi, a staunch ally of the Riyadh regime, back to power.
According to al-Masirah, Saudi forces on Saturday fired artillery shells on the Kataf district in the northern Yemeni province of Sa’ada and the city of Harad in the northwestern province of Hajjah. The Kataf region was also targeted by airstrikes.
UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Stephen O’Brien said in late July that thousands of civilians have lost their lives in the Saudi airstrikes.
“We continue to witness the death and injury of civilians and the destruction of civilian infrastructure. As of 24 July, health facilities report over 4,000 conflict-related deaths and over 19,800 injuries since 26 March. The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) reports that 1,895 civilians have been killed, and 4,182 injured.”

Saudi friendly fire kills 20 allies of Riyadh in Yemen: Report
At least 20 militants loyal to the regime in Riyadh have reportedly been killed in a Saudi airstrike on Yemen.
Yemeni sources said the airstrike during the late hours of Saturday targeted an area along a coastal road heading toward the southern embattled city of Zinjibar, the Associated Press reported on Sunday.
Meanwhile, at least 16 children and women were injured after Saudi-backed militants fired mortar shells in Yemen’s southwestern Ta’izz City.
On Saturday, at least 70 militants fighting for Yemen’s Saudi-backed fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi were killed after fighters from Houthi Ansarullah movement and allied Yemeni army units repelled an attack on Zinjibar, the capital of Abyan Province. Latest reports indicate that the militants, backed by Saudi air cover, have been forced to retreat from the troubled region in the face of strong resistance by the Yemeni forces.
On the same day, the United Arab Emirates confirmed that a landmine explosion killed at least three Emirati soldiers who were fighting along the pro-Saudi militants in Yemen. However, some media reports put the death toll higher, saying that at least five Emirati troops were killed.
Saudi Arabia continued airstrikes against Yemen on Sunday. Five civilians were killed in such attacks on the district of Harf Sufyan in the northwestern Yemeni province of Amran.
A girl was also injured as Saudi warplanes targeted houses and mosque in a Yemeni village in the northwestern Sa’ada Province.
The Yemeni army, backed by popular committees, meanwhile, has been carrying out retaliatory attacks in southern Saudi Arabia. In the latest such offensives, the Yemeni forces attacked a Saudi military base in the southwestern Dhahran al-Janub region.

Saudi keeps bombing Yemen, 3 civilians killed in Sana’a
Saudi Arabia has continued bombarding several areas in Yemen, killing at least three people in the Yemeni province of Sa’ada.
According to local media outlets, Saudi forces fired hundreds of shells at the districts of Shada’a and Dhaher in the northwestern province, killing two children and injuring seven civilians.
The Saudi shells also demolished two houses and destroyed several gardens in the province. A Yemeni source said Saudi forces also fired over 70 rockets at the district of Kitaf in Sa’ada.
Reports noted that at least one civilian was killed in the Saudi airstrikes on several residential areas in Sa’ada.
Saudi warplanes also conducted several airstrikes in the southwestern Yemeni province of Ta’iz. A Yemeni military source said one of the Saudi airstrikes targeted a residential house in the district of Salh. The source added that another airstrike hit an area west of the airport in the city of Ta’iz.
In a separate development in Tai’z, Yemeni army forces along with Ansarullah fighters recaptured several positions from al-Qaeda-linked militants.
The Saudi jets also targeted farms in the district of Midi in the northwestern province of Hajjah.
Sana’a rally
Also on Thursday, Yemeni people staged a sit-in in the capital, Sana’a, expressing their solidarity with Ansarullah fighters.

The participants in the sit-in slammed the international community for its silence on the Saudi aggression against Yemen.
Riyadh is pushing ahead with its military campaign against the Yemeni people despite the fact that the civilian death toll is increasing on a daily basis as a result of the unabated Saudi airstrikes.
The Saudi regime has been bombarding Yemen since March 26 – without a UN mandate – in a bid to undermine Yemen’s Ansarullah movement and restore power to the fugitive former president, Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a staunch ally of Riyadh.
According to the United Nations, the war on Yemen has killed some 4,000 people, nearly half of them civilians, since late March.
