The Yemeni army backed by popular committees has launched a retaliatory attack on a military base in Saudi Arabia’s southwestern Jizan region, killing at least seven soldiers, reports say.
According to Yemen’s al-Masirah TV network on Saturday, several Saudi military vehicles were also destroyed in the attack.
According to the report, the Yemeni forces also demolished several military vehicles in an attack on a base in Saudi Arabia’s southwestern Asir region.
The Arabic-language al-Alam news channel said that several Saudi forces were killed in the attack on al-Hathirah military camp in Jizan, adding that two armored vehicles were also destroyed by rockets fired from north of Yemen.
Another report by al-Manar said that allied Yemeni forces launched rocket attacks on Saudi positions in Ramthah, Omme Shalool and al-Haarrah in the same province, destroying one Saudi tank and two armored vehicles. The report said that the Saudis also suffered fatalities in the massive offensive.
The retaliatory attacks came as clashes were also reported west of Yemen, where Ansarullah fighters and allied army units shelled a Saudi-led warship sailing near the port of al-Hudaidah. The shelling then triggered an exchange of fire, with no report yet of possible casualties.
Saudi Arabia faces retaliatory rocket fire from Yemen; the attacks are intended as retaliation for Riyadh’s devastating military campaign against Yemen.
Earlier on Saturday, Saudi fighter jets also launched four attacks on al-Hovaini district in Lahij Province, southwest of Yemen.
On March 26, Saudi Arabia began its military aggression against Yemen – without a UN mandate – in a bid to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement and restore power to fugitive former Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, an ally of Riyadh.
