Several Palestinians have been injured and dozens arrested.

Also on Sunday, fierce clashes broke out inside the mosque when Israeli forces stormed the compound.

They fired tear gas to disperse the Palestinian worshippers, and injured three of them. The aggression has sparked international condemnation.

Israel is accused of provocation and attempts to change the ‘Status Quo‘. The assault was also condemned as an unacceptable escalation ov violence against Muslims’ holy places in the occupied territories of Palestine.

Under the current ‘Status Quo’ arrangements, Jews are permitted to visit the mosque but can’t pray there [PDF see pg. 22].

Meanwhile, Egypt and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas have also condemned the assault as an unacceptable escalation against Muslims’ holy places in the occupied territories.
