Syrian Arab Army 103rd Brigade-Latakia

Syrian commandos of the 103rd Republican Guard Brigade make significant progress in northeastern Latakia

(Leith Fadel, Almasdarnews, 16/1/2016) ~ The Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade (commando brigade) of the Republican Guard and their allies are swiftly clearing the remaining hilltops in the northeastern countryside, seizing a number of sites from the Islamist rebels of Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group) and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) in the process.

On Monday afternoon, the Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade – alongside the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP), the Syrian Marines, the National Defense Forces (NDF), and Liwaa Suqour Al-Sahra (Desert Hawks Brigade) – established control over Point 665, Dhuhrat Al-Kroum, Ardh Al-Qaram, and Ruweisat Al-Jultah in Jabal Al-Akrad (Kurdish Mountains), forcing the Islamist rebels of Jabhat Al-Nusra and the Free Syrian Army to retreat north in order to regroup.

However, the Islamist rebels were never given the opportunity to regroup in Jabal Al-Akrad on Monday, as the Syrian Armed Forces pressed north towards the strategic village of Kinsibba and its surrounding hilltops that overlook the northwestern countryside of the Idlib Governorate.

Later in the day, the Syrian Commandos continued their advance towards Kinsibba, seizing Tal Jurjes, Talaal Al-Hamr and the small village of Balalah in Jabal Al-Akrad after a violent battle with the Free Syrian Army and Jabhat Al-Nusara.

The aforementioned sites captured in Jabal Al-Akrad on Monday are located southwest of Kinsibba.

Much of the Syrian Armed Forces’ success on Monday is due to their advanced weaponry that helped them pick-off the Islamist rebels from a long distance away; this was depicted in the footage released by field correspondent Eyad Al-Hussein.

Hezbollah brigades, National Defense Forces, Iraqi paramilitary units and Syrian Army of the 154th Brigade seize Misqan village in northern Aleppo

(Leith Fadel, Almasdarnews, 16/1/2016) ~ Earlier today, the Syrian Arab Army’s 154th Brigade of the 4th Mechanized Division – backed by Hezbollah, the National Defense Forces (NDF), and several Iraqi paramilitary units – entered the small village of Misqan in northern Aleppo after a violent battle with the Islamist rebels of Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group), Jaysh Al-Mujahiddeen, Jabhat Al-Shamiyah, the Free Syrian Army (FSA), and Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham.

Following their entry into Misqan, the Syrian Armed Forces and their allies seized approximately half of the village, forcing the Islamist rebels to withdraw towards the east district in order to reinforce their last line of defense.

However, not long after their withdraw towards the east district, the Islamist rebel defenses fell apart once again as the Syrian Armed Forces and their allies overwhelmed the opposition fighters before establishing full control over Misqan village.

With Misqan under their control, the Syrian Armed Forces and their allies shifted their attention to the nearby village of Ahras, which was considered to be an opposition stronghold before the fall of Tal Rifa’at to the Kurdish forces.

Preliminary reports indicated that the Syrian Armed Forces and their allies have entered Ahras; however, local sources denies that the village has been captured from the Islamist rebels.
