Army Command: “Victory at al-Qaryatain ensures oil and gas pipeline security and blocking ISIS supply routes”

(SANA) ~ The General Command of the Army and the Armed Forces confirmed Sunday that the army units, aided by the popular defense groups and backed by the Syrian and Russian Air Forces, restored security and stability to al-Qaryatain city and the farms surrounding it in southeastern Homs.

In a statement, the Army Command said retaking al-Qaryatain city is just another severe blow to ISIS terrorists, following their successive defeats in tens of villages and towns in eastern Aleppo, and most recently in Palmyra.

The statement described the military operation in al-Qaryatain as “precise” and “swift” during which large numbers of ISIS terrorists were killed after all their supply routes to the city were cut off and the overlooking mountains and hills controlled.

The Army Command said this achievement is of a great importance given the location of al-Qaryatain city as it links the northeastern countryside of Damascus with the eastern countryside of Homs

With this new achievement, it added, the oil and gas pipelines in the area will be secured and ISIS supply routes between al-Badiya (desert) and al-Qalamoun will be blocked.

The Army Command stressed in the statement that the Armed Forces and the popular defense groups are increasingly determined to go on with performing their mission with high spirits and absolute confidence in victory.

Information Minister: Restoring security and stability to al-Qaryatain important achievement on the road to vanquishing terrorism

Information Minister Omran al-Zoubi said that restoring security and stability to al-Qaryatain is an important achievement on the road to vanquishing terrorism and those who conspired against Syria.

Al-Zoubi told the Syrian TV in a phone call on Sunday that this achievement is a follow up to the victories made in Palmyra and other areas, asserting that the Armed Forces are growing ever more determined to restoring security and stability to the entire country and ridding it of terrorism.

He said that ISIS, Jabhat al-Nusra, and other terrorist organizations that operate under different name all come from one source: the Saudi-Turkish-American conspiracy against Syria.

A military source explained to SANA that heavy clashes broke out between the defenders of the military posts and the attacking terrorist groups, which resulted in the death of at least 50 terrorists.

Three vehicles equipped with machine guns, a tank and a rocket launcher were destroyed during the confrontation, with the army units seizing the terrorists’ weapons and ammunition, including a DShK machine gun, a rocket shell launcher and amounts of RPG shells.

Army units clashed with Jabhat al-Nusra-linked terrorist groups that infiltrated safe sites in Kensabba area in the northern countryside of Lattakia on Saturday.

The infiltrating groups were repelled as they were sneaking into Nahashba village, Rasha hill and Rweiset al-Malek, with the army units, aided by the popular defense groups, inflicting heavy losses upon them in personnel and equipment, according to sources on the ground.

Afterwards, the army units combed the sites to dismantle the bombs left behind by the terrorists before some of them were killed and the rest fled towards the Turkish territories.
