Virginia State Senator Richard Black in a statement
following his arrival in Damascus
Virginia State Senator Richard Black:
…“I’m very proud to be here with the people of Syria, the people of Syria are very heroic. It is incredible. I believe that someday when this war is over, history will record that a country of 23 million courageous people had such strength and unity that they were able to combat the major powers of the entire world” ……The gunmen who have been supported by the United States, France, Britain, NATO, the European Union, and the Gulf states have utterly destroyed civilization. In their desire to topple the one secular free nation in the Middle East, they have caused utter destruction and devastation throughout the Middle East”…
…“What happened in Syria was not a domestic issue; but it was planned, it was a covert action by a number of intelligence agencies, from Western powers, from Saudi Arabia, from Turkey, all led by the Muslim Brotherhood”…
U.S. Senator Black Richard Black to al-Laham:
“I will be the voice of Syria in America”
Speaker of the People’s Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Laham discussed during a meeting with U.S. Senator for the State of Virginia Richard Hayden “Dick” Black the latest political developments in the region and the efforts exerted in combating terrorism, in addition to the unfair economic blockade imposed on the Syrian people.
Black said that what is happening in Syria nowadays affects the future of civilizations in the world, noting that although Syria is a small country, it’s a central country in the region, considering that if Syria would lose the war, there would be serious repercussions on civilization and humanity in general.
Black said that Russia’s intervention in the war against terrorism caused great changes, adding that he’s reassured about the result of the war waged by the Syrian Arab Army against terrorists.
The Senator pointed out that as soon as he returns to the United States, he will work towards organizing discussions in the Congress in order to change the prevailing view about what is happening in Syria, and that he will seek to reopen the Syrian Embassy there, adding “I will be Syria’s voice.”
He also stated that the steadfastness of a country like Syria in the face of all American, European, and Arab Gulf powers is “a miracle from God.”
In turn, al-Laham stressed that Syria is combating terrorism and extremism on behalf of the whole world, and that victory over the armed terrorist organizations is a victory for civil values, stressing the for decision-making establishments in the world to realize the reality of who is funding and arming terrorism and put an end to this.
Al-Laham added that many countries participate through deliberate policies or erroneous ones in spreading extremism, chaos, and terrorism, adding “we in Syria believe that the United States is not serious about combating terrorism despite the coalition that it leads against ISIS, a coalition which did not achieve any results on the ground,” lauding the objective positions of Senator Black regarding the terrorist war waged on Syria.
The US Senator arrived in Syria on Tuesday in a visit that will last for three days.
Earlier, in a statement to SANA upon his arrival in Damascus, Senator Black stressed that what is going on in Syria is terrorism and the issue is simply that there are terrorists fighting the Syrian people and the legitimate government, adding that there are no “moderate” fighters in Syria.
He clarified that many people misunderstand what is happening in Syria, and some of them did not believe that those who are fighting the Syrian people and the government are all terrorists, hoping that he would be able to let the American people know the reality about Syria.
Black, who is a Republican member of the Virginia State Senate, said the crisis in Syria did not start from inside the country but rather in Western and Gulf capitals and their intelligence services, who made the decision to create chaos and have actually done so and shed lots of blood.
He told SANA reporter that although he had not visited Syria before, but he has studied the situation in it in depth and for a long while, which allowed him to tell who is bad and who is good.
Black went on saying that what he can tell is that President Bashar al-Assad was legitimately elected in 2014 elections in which two thirds of eligible voters voted and many of those voted in his favor.
President al-Assad wants to build a developed and modern state where people are free and can practice their religious beliefs without violence, Black added.
He wondered how parties such as Saudi Arabia, which has never for once had elections held in it, could ask for elections to be held in Syria and for the constitution there to be changed.
He found the Saudi conduct odd asking for constitutional change in Syria when there has been no constitution or women’s rights or religious freedom in Saudi Arabia, while the Syrian constitution “supports the rights of women” and guarantees religious freedom in three issues.
U.S. Senator Richard Black in Homs:
“Palmyra is the legacy of all civilizations”
Homs, SANA-US Senator Richard Black visited on Wednesday the ancient city of Palmyra, Old Homs and the military airport of T-4 near Palmyra where he met a number of the Syrian Arab army’s officers and pilots, affirming “anyone bears weapon against the Syrian State is a terrorist and I absolutely support President Bashar al-Assad.”
“The gunmen who have been supported by the United States, France, Britain, NATO, the European Union, and the Gulf states have utterly destroyed civilization. In their desire to topple the one secular free nation in the Middle East, they have caused utter destruction and devastation throughout the Middle East,” Senator Black said in a statement to SANA.
He added “What you see in Palmyra is the legacy of all civilization. It’s not the legacy of Syria, it is the legacy of all mankind, and what is happening in Syria will determine the fate of civilization itself.”
“I’m very proud to be here with the people of Syria, the people of Syria are very heroic. It is incredible. I believe that someday when this war is over, history will record that a country of 23 million courageous people had such strength and unity that they were able to combat the major powers of the entire world,” the US Senator said.
Mr. Black went on to say that the message he would give to the world is that “it is within our power to stop the destruction of Syria. What happened in Syria was not a domestic issue; but it was planned, it was a covert action by a number of intelligence agencies, from Western powers, from Saudi Arabia, from Turkey, all led by the Muslim Brotherhood.”
Meanwhile, Senator Black visited Homs old city, the souk, al-Zahrawi Palace, Saint Mary Church of the Holy Belt and the Cultural Center.
“The government and people in Syria want peace, but regional countries don’t”, Mr. black said during a meeting with Homs governor Talal Barazi.
Barazi, for his part, said “We always welcome the voice of right,” adding that Syria’s victory over terrorism requires from the international community to stop the flow of terrorists into the country.
Shaaban to Senator Black:
“Peoples are the most affected by terrorism”
Damascus, SANA – Presidential Political and Media Advisor Bouthaina Shaaban affirmed on Tuesday that peoples are the most affected by terrorism, adding “countering terrorism requires cooperation and coordination among countries and pressuring the regimes that export terrorism like those of Erdogan and Al Saud.
“Terrorism poses threat to the whole world”, Shaaban said during a meeting with U.S. Senator for the State of Virginia Richard Hayden “Dick” Black, calling on all governments to cooperate and coordinate to eliminate terrorism.
She called on officials and representatives of the nations to view directly the truth of what is going on the ground away from the picture drawn by some media outlets that contribute to fueling wars and killing the innocents.
Shaaban thanked Balck for his support to the Syrian people and his understanding of the truth of what is going on in Syria in spite of all attempts of media to distort reality.
Senator Black, for his part, asserted that he has tried throughout the period of the crisis in Syria to shed light on what is going on in Syria and to warn the US government of the repercussions of the military support to the terrorists and mercenaries.
He affirmed the importance of cooperation among media and political establishments to let the Americans get acquainted with the reality of events in Syria.

what’s happened in Syria has been a holocaust … the world turned it’s back while refugee’s en route to safety starved to death without food or water. It makes me sick to think this could have even happened. It’s like Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans only hundred times worse. I wish this country healing & am sorry for what they’ve endured. Inexcusable when their were resources that could have helped.

As JU4DY said above….there is very little truth in what the media in the West gives, especially in the foreign political arena. I have been following the Syrian Free Press for the truth, and also other news sources as RT , Russia Insider, SOTT.net and Global Research. Because of those and some other sources I have been able to fill in pieces of information to answer questions I had . These are not only for Syria, but Libya , Iraq , and the Ukraine. I am disappointed in my birth country….our govt. has been infiltrated by Neocons and Neoliberals and our people brainwashed over a period exceeding 50 years. As far as our Media….90+% is corporate owned and the news is managed … so for a long time the untruths and obfuscation of news is all the people get. Thank you, keep up the accurate reporting.

Thanks for mentioning some other sources you are able to learn from.
It’s been more than 50 years. Like Lord Acton said, power corrupts. In my lifetime, the US has always been dominantly powerful, along with its allies, and they have behaved in persistently corrupt ways.
In the early 1950s, when Iran attempted to be an independent modernizing country, improving the lives of its people, establishing a secular parliamentary multi-party government and nationalizing the oil industry, which had been virtually owned and controlled by the UK (the anglo iranian oil company, AIOC), nationalization being done in order to use Iran’s own oil profits to develop the country, providing universal health care, education, technical training, jobs etc to the people of Iran, the UK did not accept this.
To oversimplify the long heartbreaking story, the UK requested that the powerful US get rid of the popular elected secular Iranian government and get “their” oil back for them. The US destroyed the Iranian government, installed a puppet ruler, but actually took over ruling Iran themselves directly for about 15 years. As soon as this was accomplished (early 50s), the Iranian oil industry was taking over by a “consortium” of Western oil companies, with the UK, now calling its company British Petroleum, getting the largest share, but US, French and Dutch companies having shares of ownership too. No Iranian was ever allowed to sit on the board of the consortium, and no Iranian was allowed to look at the books to examine the finances.
Thankfully, after about 25 years, the Iranian revolution took their country back.
Meanwhile, through out all those years, and earlier, the current opportunistic relationship between the Western governments and the Saudi government has been what it is today.
I think this history is very related to what has been attempted against Syria in recent years, and that these countries continue to have the goal of retaking Iran and its oil for their own benefit.

Richard Black is a State Senator from Virginia. He is NOT a US Senator, meaning he holds a position in the US Senate. He does NOT. He should be addressed as Virginia State Senator Richard Black, so your readers do NOT think he is a member of the US Senate which legislates over the entire United States of America.

It’s like a miracle that this guy cares about the reality of what is happening in Syria. I am in the US and cannot find anyone who sees what is going on there, people learn what to think from the media and the other political leaders, so i don’t know how this guy Senator Black, is able to see with his eyes and mind open, but thank you for posting this. i am sharing and tweeting. I would like to follow his progress on his efforts in the US to bring this reality to the attention of the US Congress, which i think he said he is going to try to do. He is just a senator in a state legislature, so i don’t know what connections he has to influence the US Congress, but i wish him well, and if you guys get any information on whether he is able to make any progress reaching people who actually have power to determine US foreign policy, i would be happy to read about it here. The US media does not seem willing or able to provide true honest information. They are either ignorant or lying or both.

Dear American friend, thank you for the attention you have for the difficult time, full of tragic nature, which is going through this area and its peoples.
From the fate of Syria and the Middle East will depend also the story of many other peoples.
The weight and the choices of the American people, and its government, will be decisive, for better or for worse.
We hope that many Americans of good will, like you, are capable of positively influencing those who are currently choices of devastation and death for many people in the world because of the cynical politics of the men & women who rule the U.S.
To you the task of this American battle: we are already doing our.
Good luck.

my experience is that the people of the US have very little influence on the powerful government, sadly. The system of government is designed to be influenced from the top down. But because of access to a source like this one that you publish, at least those of us who, for whatever reasons question the authority here, and based on experience, know that it cannot be trusted and is an influence for greedy violence and destruction in the world, at least we or i can speak out and with the reach of social media, hopefully spread alternative information and truth. My heart breaks and is in pain for the terrible damage being done in so many places around the world, and has been being done throughout my lifetime. There is such callousness about destroying whole countries and societies, taking from people the peace and safety that Americans take for granted in their lives, if only they would question what they are being led to believe, it could help.
It uplifts my spirit to read many of the things you publish.
