Russia’s envoy to the United Nations Vitaly Churkin has called the U.S. attack on Syrian army positions in Dayr al-Zawr suspicious.
Churkin said by conducting the airstrikes, the U.S. violated two commitments: one was the commitment to a cessation of hostilities and the other was the U.S. pledge not to target Syrian government positions when it began its air campaign in the country back in 2014. The remarks came as the U.N. Security Council was holding an emergency meeting over the airstrikes.
