Russian Defense Ministry: Russian airstrikes kill more than 30 terrorists, including commanders, in Idleb province
Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said that at least 30 terrorists from Jabhat al-Nusra were killed in the Russian air forces airstrikes on their fortifications in Idleb province.
Russian Su-33 carrier-based fighter jets and air group of the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier carried out airstrikes on Jabhat al-Nusra gatherings and fortifications in Idleb province, killing more than 30 terrorists.
Three field commanders were among the dead, Konashenkov said, adding that “the well-known commanders were Muhammad Hilala, Abu Jaber and the nicknamed Abul Baha Al-Asfari.”
Eliminated field commander Abul Baha al-Asfari was in charge of uniting the remaining reserves of Jabhat al-Nusra groupings in the provinces of Aleppo and Hama, Konashenkov said.
On Tuesday, The Defense Ministry revealed that Russia’s aircraft carrier, the Admiral Kuznetsov in addition to Frigate Admiral Grigorovich started a large-scale military operation against the positions of Jabhat al-Nusra and the ISIS terrorist organizations in the countryside of Homs and Idleb provinces.

Three “well-known” commanders of Al-Qaeda’s Syria affiliate formerly known as Al-Nusra Front, including one who planned attacks on Aleppo, were killed in Russian strikes launched from aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov, a Defense Ministry spokesman said.
“As a result of strikes delivered by Su-33 carrier-based fighter jets and air group of the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier, a large gang of the Jabhat al-Nusra group was destroyed in the province of Idlib,” Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said Thursday.
At least 30 terrorists were killed, including three field commanders, Konashenkov said, adding that the operation resulted in a “major blow” against Al-Nusra, which now goes by the name of Jabhat Fatah Al-Sham.
Konashenkov said the “well-known” commanders were Muhammad Helala, Abu Jaber Harmuja and Abul Baha Al-Asfari.
“Eliminated field commander Abul Baha al-Asfari was in charge of uniting the remaining reserves of Jabhat al-Nusra groupings in the provinces of Aleppo and Hama, as well as of planning and carrying out another militant attack on Aleppo,” Konashenkov said.
On Tuesday, The Defense Ministry revealed that Russia’s only aircraft carrier, the Admiral Kuznetsov, had for the first time taken part in a large-scale military operation, targeting terrorist forces in Homs and Idlib provinces as Su-33 jets began sorties from its deck.
RT’s crew, which had been invited to witness the onset of the operation from the carrier, was told that all the bombers were fully equipped for the combat mission, each carrying high-precision 500kg bombs.
Prior to the launch of the operation, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said that Russia had determined “the main targets” in the region, which included “ammunition warehouses, spots occupied by the militants; to be more precise – terrorists.”
The Russian frigate Admiral Grigorovich was also taking part in the offensive, firing missiles at carefully selected targets.
Syrian Arab Army kills more terrorists, destroys their dens and positions in different areas across the country
Syrian Arab Army units, backed by the Syrian army air force, on Thursday continued the military operations against dens and positions of the Takfiri terrorists in different areas across the country, inflicting heavy losses upon them in the arms and personnel.
A military source affirmed that a number of dens and gatherings of Jabhat al-Nusra terrorists were destroyed in the continued military operation carried out by the army against the Takfiri terrorism in the western countryside of Damascus.
The source told SANA that army units on Thursday morning carried out bombardments against positions of Jabhat al-Nusra terrorists in Khan al-Sheeh and to the west of Bir(well) al-Afaei in the western countryside.
The source added that a number of terrorists were killed, others were injured and many of their dens and an amount of their arms and ammunition were destroyed.
Army units directed artillery strikes on the gatherings and fortified sites for Jabhat al-Nusra in Jobatha al-Khashab village and the woodlands surrounding it in the countryside of Quneitra, according to SANA reporter.
The reporter pointed out that an arms cache and two vehicles were destroyed during the strikes in addition to killing and injuring a number of terrorists in the village.
He added that more than 15 terrorists were killed and others injured and their weapons and ammunition were destroyed in the woodlands surrounding Jobatha al-Khashab village.
An army unit bombarded ISIS terrorist’s positions and vehicles towards Toloul al-Swwana, about 90 km east of Homs city in Homs province.
The army inflicted heavy losses upon the ISIS terrorist organization, killing and injuring a number of its members.
In the northern countryside of the province, the army targeted Jabhat al-Nusra terrorists’ positions in the villages of al-Farhanyia and Ein Hussein al-Janoubi, about 30 km of Homs.
A number of terrorists were killed and their vehicles and gatherings were destroyed, according to the source.
Meanwhile, a number of terrorists were killed and many vhicles, equipped with machine guns were destroyed in army’s concentrated operations against their gatherings in Kfar Laha, Sa’an, Ghantu and Housh al-Taleb in Homs Countryside.
Army units bombarded Jaish al-Fateh terrorist’s gatherings and positions in the
villages of al-Mansourah and Khawabi al-Assal and al-Rashindin 4 and 5 areas in the western countryside f Aleppo province.
The army killed and injured a number of terrorists and destroyed a number of their hideouts and vehicles.
The source added that the army destroyed one of the main positions of Jaish al-Fateh after targeting their sites in Khan al-Assal town, about 12 km southwest of Aleppo city.
The army air force targeted Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist’s supply routes and vehicle convoys in Hraitan, Kafr Hamra to the north of Aleppo city, destroying the terrorists’ armored vehicles, and SUVs, some equipped with machineguns.
At least 26 ISIS terrorists were killed in operations carried out by the army in Deir Ezzor Province.
The army personnel defending Deir Ezzor Military Airport on Thursday morning clashed with terrorist groups affiliated to the ISIS after they infiltrated towards the eastern barricade of the Airport.
At least six terrorists were killed in the clashes and their vehicles and arms were destroyed.
Army units also carried out bombardments against hotbeds and positions of the ISIS terrorists in al-Sina’a neighborhood, al-Taim oil field and al-Jafra crossing, killing at least 20 terrorists.
