Syrian War Report 30/11/2017: China Considers Deploying Special Forces in Syria

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and the National Defense Forces (NDF) have captured the villages of Ramlah, Mazra’a and Aziza Abisan southwest of the town of Khanasir in southwestern Aleppo, according to pro-government sources.

This advance is a part of a wider effort aimed at recapturing the Abu al-Duhur Airbase and the nearby town from Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda).

Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) has reportedly recaptured the village of Abu Ajwa in northeastern Hama from ISIS. The tensions between ISIS and HTS in the area are allowing the SAA and the NDF to expand their zone of control in the area without significant casualties.

Unknown aircraft bombed two HQs of the HTS-allied Turkistan Islamic Party (TIP) in the town of Kherbet Eljoz in northern Idlib. Unknown aircraft also destroyed two TIP vehicles on the road between Kherbet and Jisr al-Shughur.

It is not clear which side of the conflict conducted these airstrikes. However, some opposition sources speculated that they are related to activity of the Chinese Special Operations Forces in Syria. While a solid evidence confirming this barely exists, the claims are likely fueled by the recent media reports that China may deploy its special forces in Syria…

The Chinese Navy fleet, which docked at the southern Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas on Thursday, will take part in the joint exercises in waters of the Islamic Republic on Sunday.

The Iranian and Chinese naval forces will display their military capabilities and share experience during the drill.

In the run-up to the major G20 meeting to be held on September 4th and 5th in in Hangzhou, China has made a major public announcement about its role in the Syrian conflict.

On Sunday August 15th, 2016 in Damascus, the Syrian defense minister Fahd Jassem al-Freij held a meeting with the head of the Office of International Military Cooperation of the Central Military Commission (CMC) of the PRC, Rear Admiral Guan Youfei.

An agreement has been reached in relation to the Syrian conflict. China’s military will significantly increase its role in the Syrian conflict, by upgrading the role of special advisers and adding military trainers for the Syrian personnel, and increasing their numbers.

China will also begin to directly supply the Syrian Arab Army with material needs, and also increase its humanitarian assistance. Presently, hundreds of Chinese military advisers are involved in the Syrian conflict.

Daniel Broudy: You’re now finishing up work on your latest project the title of which, it seems, can also trigger feelings of considerable dread. The Coming War, maybe you’d agree, is pretty heavy. Can you describe the impetus for this particular look at world events, especially as you see them unfolding in East Asia?

John Pilger: The film picks up the theme of much of my work. It will set out to explain how great power imposes itself on people and disguises itself and the dangers it beckons. This film is about the United States—no longer sure of its dominance—rekindling the Cold War. The Cold War has been started again on two fronts—against Russia and against China. I’m concentrating on China in a film about the Asia-Pacific. It’s set in the Marshall Islands where the United States exploded 67 atomic bombs, nuclear weapons, between 1946 and 1958, leaving that part of the world gravely damaged—in human and environmental terms. And this assault on the Marshalls goes on. On the largest island, Kwajalein, there is an important and secretive US base called the Ronald Reagan Test Facility, which was established in the 1960s—as the archive we’re using makes clear—“to combat the threat from China.”…

Beijing uses live missiles in South China Sea drills as tensions mount

According to the PLA Daily, the Chinese military’s official newspaper, the state navy completed drills on Friday that engaged “live missiles” in the area between the The vessels from the country’s northern, eastern and southern fleets took part in the exercises, the Defense Ministry reported.

“The drill focused on air control operations, sea battles and anti-submarine warfare,” the website of China’s Ministry of Defense states.

Despite media speculations suggesting the maneuvers were undertaken in the wake of a ruling by The Hague’s Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA), expected to be ordered on July 12, the PLA called the event “routine exercises.”

China has warned all the provocateurs from facilitating the tensions, saying Beijing won’t take a “single step back” in the conflict and expressed readiness to strike back if the situation deteriorated.

The Chinese military has at its disposal HQ-9 SAMs and ASCMs missiles stationed in the Spratly Islands. Beijing could also turn artificial islands it had constructed on the coral reefs in the South China Sea into military bases, installing missile systems there, experts suggest.

Chinese, Russian Air Forces to Use Hmamiyat Airfields to Bomb Daesh in Syria

Local sources said that the Chinese military will soon send its aircraft and aerial equipment to the Hmamiyat Airfields inside the Syrian Bassel Al-Assad International Airport to join the Russian and Syrian air fleet.

When the Chinese Navy finally arrives in Tartous, they will be welcomed by their Russian counterparts that are already stationed in Syria’s Western countryside; however, unlike their Russian allies, the Chinese will not likely send infantry units to deploy around the country, the sources said according to Massdar news website.

The Hmamiyat Airfields are located inside a section of the Bassel Al-Assad International Airport that has been used by the Syrian Air Force as an airbase to conduct flights along the vast coast – the airport itself is located in the Jableh district of Lattakia.
