George W. Bush’s speechwriter David Frum – who pushed many of the biggest lies about the Iraq war – is now trying to ridicule anyone who doesn’t accept the evidence-less claims that Russia hacked the Democratic party as a Kremlin stooge.

Similarly, Jonathan Chait championed the Iraq war. And now he’s ridiculing those asking for evidence before jumping headlong into anti-Russia hysteria.

Kerry in panic as Damascus and Moscow are retaking Aleppo

• Acting US Administration is still trying to reach an agreement with Russia, given which siege of Aleppo would be stopped in return for division of the Syrian opposition and terror groups. As the Washington Post reported, with a reference to representatives in the State Department, namely John Kerry, the Secretary of State, is dealing with it. He keeps making every effort to reach a deal with Russia on the Syrian Aleppo, despite his soon stepping down.
• Kerry realizes that Trump may reach quite another type of agreement with Moscow, he may go the length of a deal which would leave the Syrian opposition to the mercy of fate and would place Washington squarely on the side of the president Bashar al-Assad.
• Among those efforts aimed at prompt achievement of an agreement with Russia on Syria phone talks between Kerry and his Russian colleague Sergey Lavrov are named, as they were carried out 2 times a week. Beside that, he has had negotiations on the issue with the US allies in Abu Dhabi this month and calls to engage Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey and even Iran in negotiations.
• Meanwhile, the Syrian government troops have significantly advanced for the last two days towards eastern areas of Aleppo. Most of buildings have been liberated from Jabhat al-Nusra and other terrorist gangsters. Thousands of civilian residents have been withdrawn from combat areas with the help of the Syrian Arab Army and its allied forces on the ground.

In the Syrian city of Aleppo, children are the most vulnerable victims of war. While everything possible has been done to protect them from shells coming from the Jihadist-held part of the city, living on the frontline still takes its toll.
Reem, a slim 13-year-old girl, lost her leg in a shelling while walking home from school several weeks ago. Painkillers given to Reem have not proven effective enough, and doctors can now do little to relief her suffering.
Next door in intensive care, a 6-year-old boy is lying in a coma after taking four pieces of shrapnel to the head. Doctors are unable to say whether the boy will ever wake up again, as the damage to his brain is enormous.

The US military would never agree to enforce a “no fly zone” (or a “no bombing zone”) without an aerial bombardment since by failing (in US parlance) to “degrade” the Syrian air defences through an aerial bombardment the US would be placing its aircraft and pilots enforcing the “no fly zone” (or “no bombing zone”) at risk.

In a situation where the air defences in question are not merely Syrian but Russian – and therefore far more capable of shooting down US aircraft – the whole idea of enforcing a “no bombing zone” without an aerial bombardment to “degrade” these defences is inconceivable.

It is inconceivable that the US political and military leadership would put the lives of its personnel in Syria at risk in this way, especially in a situation which could easily escalate into a full-blown military confrontation with the Russians.

That is something that neither the West’s political nor its military leadership is prepared to risk.

It is now clear that for the foreseeable future the government of Syria will be the government of President Bashar Al-Assad, which is and always has been the legitimate UN recognised government of Syria…. … …

US is trying to distract attention from its own failure to implement the ceasefire deal by calling for an investigation into Russia’s actions in Syria, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

“The US side just could not fulfill the ceasefire agreement. They themselves told us that they do not have the means to put pressure on the opposition,” Zakharova said, as quoted by TASS.

She also warned Washington that there were legal consequences for such rhetoric.

“Kerry’s statement – this is propaganda. There are some very serious legal consequences behind this terminology, and I think that Kerry used all of these terms to inflame the situation,” Zakharova said.

She said in an interview to Dozhd TV channel: “If it comes to war crimes, US representatives should start with Iraq. And then move to Libya, and of course to Yemen – find out what’s there. I want to say that juggling these words is very dangerous, because there are indeed war crimes on the part of the American representatives.”

“There are different streams in Washington, which are right now competing for lobbying of their approach to solving the Syrian [issue]. There are some who strongly advocate for ousting Bashar Assad, some push for military operations,” she said at a forum for young diplomats on Friday.

Syrian government forces, backed by Russian air power, appear to be on the brink of retaking all of the eastern portion of Aleppo, the last major bastion of the US-backed “rebels,” composed principally of Al Qaeda-affiliated Islamist militias.

The Times writes: “President Obama has long refused to approve direct military intervention in Syria. And Mr. Putin may be assuming that Mr. Obama is unlikely to confront Russia in his final months and with an American election season in full swing. But with the rebel stronghold in Aleppo under threat of falling to the government, administration officials said that such a response is again under consideration”.

Russian Defense Ministry: “Only the Syrian army has been observing the ceasefire regime within these three days of implementation of the agreements while the US-led ‘moderate opposition’ has been increasing the number of shellings of residential quarters”.

The Syrian Army has started withdrawal of heavy military equipment to create demilitarized zone, the Russian General Staff stated on Thursday.

“The Syrian governmant troops have stopped firing and begun to withdraw their tanks, IFV and artillery to a set distance to create a demilitarized zone. The Russian Aerospace Force and the Syrian Air Force have stopped airstrikes on areas where opposition units may be located,” Lt. Gen. Viktor Poznikhir, first deputy chief of the General Staff’s Main Operational Department, told reporters.

“The Russian side is completely fulfilling its obligations under the ceasefire agreement. A checkpoint created on Castello Road has been handed over to the Red Crescent Society. The people’s self-defense units ‘Bustan’ and ‘Shield’ are defending the checkpoint,” Poznikhir said.

He added that the Russian Defense Ministry “has no information related to similar actions by opposition groups controlled by the US.” The first deputy chief of the General Staff’s Main Operational Department also said that withdrawal from Castello road in Aleppo may be halted if militants fail to do it simultaneously with the Syrian army. Moreover, the Russian General Staff voiced concern over a steady increase in ceasefire violations in Syria by opposition militants caused by Washington’s failure to separate ‘moderate opposition’ from al-Nusra Front terrorists.

The extremist groups redeploy their units to Kafr Hamrah village located to the northwest of Aleppo city amid nationwide ceasefire in Syria, a source in the city militia told RIA Novosti on Thursday.

“Terrorists are assembling a lot of fighters in Kaft Hamrah. According to our data, they are forming assault groups,” the source said. According to the source, additional units were redeployed from Idlib province to Aleppo city.

(SANA) ~ Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced on Friday reaching a deal to enhance the cessation of hostilities in Syria that would begin on Monday and that Russia and the US will coordinate to face terrorism and to provide the suitable conditions for the resumption of the inter-Syrian dialogue.

Lavrov added that the first step in the deal is holding a 48-hour truce then extending it for 48 more hours, and later the truce will be extended for seven consecutive days and after that a joint Russian-US coordination center will be established to coordinate air attacks against agreed terrorist targets in Syria.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, US Secretary of State John Kerry and UN envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura are due to hold a press conference following a meeting of the International Syria Support Group (ISSG) in Vienna on May 17 to discuss the cessation of hostilities agreement reached in February.

The final statement of the International Syria Support Group meeting in Vienna will focus on ceasefire and sending humanitarian aid to the besieged Syrian people, Lebanese media reported on Tuesday.

According to al-Mayadeen news channel, the final statement will include ways to stabilize truce, stop the attacks and increase efforts to dispatch more humanitarian aid to the Syrian people surrounded by terrorists.

The Lebanese channel also reported that the fate of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has not been mentioned in the final statement.

How the United States presumes to possess the authority to determine the fate of a sovereign nation thousands of miles from its own shores in the Middle East is never explained by US Secretary of State John Kerry when he recently announced a new ultimatum leveled at Damascus.

Nor is it explained why Syria should capitulate to US demands to begin a political transition that has demonstrably left other nations across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) divided, destroyed, and safe-havens for state-sponsored terrorism years after “successful” US-backed regime change has been achieved – Libya most notably.

Yet despite all of this, according to the Associate Press (AP) in their article, “Kerry warns Assad to start transition by Aug. 1 or else,” the United States fully expects Damascus to concede to a “political transition” engineered by Washington, leaving the nation in the hands of verified terrorists linked directly to the political and militant forces currently laying waste to Libya and those nations that put them into power…

US Secretary of State John Kerry threatens a “new approach” by the US in Syria, if Syria does not capitulate to what is essentially the end of its existence as a functioning nation-state. The “new approach” is likely simply the continuation of existing plans to incrementally invade and occupy Syrian territory, particularly in the east through the infiltration of Iraq-based Kurds operating under US proxy Masoud Barzani, as well as to trigger a cross-border incident north of Aleppo by using their ISIS proxies to attack Turkish targets – reminisced of staged attacks Ankara had planned earlier during the war to justify the invasion and occupation of northern Syria.

A sure sign of Russia’s geopolitical strength is that it can, and does, unilaterally set the international agenda. This has been made obvious again in the surprise announcement this week by President Putin to begin withdrawal of Russian military forces from Syria.

It was, recall, Russia’s earlier lightning-fast air operation in Syria at the end of last year that has led to the current diplomatic track – a track that Washington and its allies have had to belatedly conform to. Now this latest move by Russia serves to reinforce the diplomatic track, and once again it has sent Western counterparts into a tailspin.

In announcing military drawdown, Putin made it clear that it was “mission accomplished” in Syria, and that henceforth it is time for diplomacy and peace talks to take over – or at least have a chance. Moscow’s assessment was that its military objectives had been fulfilled. And it’s hard to disagree.

Of course, what the Western media conveniently omit is that Russia secured the Syrian state from collapse in the face of a criminal foreign-backed ‘insurgency’ fomented by the US government for the purpose of regime change.

Russia’s air power has, however, enabled Syria to now pursue a solid political path towards a peaceful settlement of the five-year war.

Put it another way, without Russia’s support, the Geneva talks this week would simply not be happening. No doubt the war would be grinding on into its sixth year with horrendous human suffering. Because, despite Western lies and distortions, the fact is that Washington and its allies were fueling a criminal covert war for regime change – until, that is, Putin stepped in and overturned that execrable game…

Thursday 10 March 2016: closing ceremony of military exercise “Ra’ad Al-Shamal” (North Thunder) in Hafr Al-Baten, northern Saudi Arabia.

The 12-day “North Thunder” manoeuvres, in the northeast of the Saudi peninsula, included 20 nations from the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

The exercises took place near Hafr al- Batin city, close to the Kuwaiti and Iraq borders.

Saudi Arabia’s chief of staff, General Abdulrahman al-Bunyan, commanded the exercise.

The “North Thunder” exercise is considered the biggest Arab and Islamic military maneuvers that have been seen in the region.

Participants in this exercise included joint military forces from 20 Arab and Islamic states in response to the invitation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

What Russia is bombing in actuality is an al-Qaeda, extremist dominated opposition embedded with CIA-backed ‘rebels’ operating under their control.

The not-so-moderates only operate under license from, and in support of, the Salafi jihadists, openly expressing their solidarity with them, labelling them as ‘brothers’, and begging the U.N. to protect them.

Due to porous links between Free Syrian Army, other Islamist groups like al-Nusra and Ahrar al-Sham, and ISIS, there have been prolific weapons transfers from ‘moderate’ to Islamist militant groups”.

Several rebel groups, 5 of which belong to the FSA, have recently united under the leadership of the former emir of the al-Qaeda-linked Ahrar al-Sham.

A longtime al-Qaeda member who sits on al-Nusra’s elite council explained that:
“The Free Syrian Army groups said they were ready for anything according to the Islamic sharia and that we are delegated to apply the rulings of the sharia on them”, essentially meaning that the FSA had subordinated themselves to al-Qaeda.

It has been further revealed that all of the Syrian groups operative in Aleppo had recently declared Ba’yaa (loyalty) to the Ahrar al-Sham emir Abu Jaber.

US officials still continue to maintain that Russia’s bombing campaign in Syria, launched last fall, has infuriated the CIA in particular because the strikes have aggressively targeted relatively moderate rebels it has backed with military supplies, including antitank missiles.

US Secretary of State John Kerry said Washington is considering a “plan B” in Syria, if peace negotiations and the ceasefire fail. Media reports suggest that the backup plan could include the division of Syria.

Mr. Kerry’s comments came after Russia and the US agreed a document on the cessation of hostilities in the Arab republic. According to the deal, the ceasefire will start on February 27 and will last for one week.

The truce is applied to all parties of the conflict, which indicated their commitment to accept the terms of the deal, except for the terrorist groups Daesh and al-Nusra Front.

Analyst Tim Anderson: “US intelligence almost four years ago said that partition of the country, a caliphate in the eastern part of Syria is exactly what the US wanted. So this is not really something new but it does show that the US is still continuing with its aggression against the Syrian state”.

A victory in Aleppo will change the course of the war by restoring government control over the densely-populated western corridor.

This is why the Obama administration is frantically searching for ways to either delay or derail the Russian-led juggernaut and avoid the impending collapse of US policy in Syria.

Recent peace talks were convened with one goal in mind, to prevent Syrian President Bashar al Assad and loyalist forces from retaking Aleppo.

While it’s impossible to know whether Turkey, Saudi Arabia or the US will actually invade Syria, it’s clear by the panicky reaction to the encirclement of Aleppo, that all three countries feel their regional ambitions are more closely aligned with those of the jihadists than with the elected government in Damascus.

This tacit alliance between the militants and their sponsors speaks volumes about the credibility of Washington’s fake war on terror.

Finally, in less than five months, loyalist forces aided by heavy Russian air cover, have shifted the balance of power in Syria, forced thousands of terrorist insurgents to flee their strongholds in the west, cleared the way for the return of millions of refugees and displaced civilians, and sabotaged the malign plan to reshape the country so it better serves Washington’s geopolitical interests.

The war is far from over, but it’s beginning to look like Putin’s gamble is going to pay off after all.

What’s not too clear to us is: but if all sides fighting in Syria (against the legitimate government of Damascus) are in one way or another terrorist organizations, or affiliated and working side by side to al-Qaeda and Daesh, (against which it was clearly stated that it is legitimate and permissible to continue fighting), by who should be exercised this “ceasefire”?!?  The FSA? We all know that the FSA does not exist anymore and that its members and leaders are the same of the various gangs affiliated with al-Qaeda (or respond to their orders).

To be honest and fair, we have to say that Syria is going to win just some battles, but the war still will rage for a long time, until the terrorism and its godfathers, will be completely and globally won, beated, extirpated, because the ‘chosen’ enemies of Syria (and Russia and Iran…) not easily stop wanting to achieve their evil goals.

The Saudi plan to send ground troops into Syria appears to be just a ruse. But this is precisely the kind of reckless saber-rattling that could ignite an all-out war, one that could embroil the United States and Russia.

Saudi rulers have reportedly amassed a 150,000-strong army to invade Syria on the alleged pretext “to fight against terrorism” and to defeat the so-called Islamic State (also known as ISIS/ISIL). Saudi officials told CNN that in addition to Saudi troops there are ground forces from Egypt, Turkey, Sudan, Morocco, Jordan, Qatar, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates.

Syria’s Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem gave a categorical response, saying the move would be seen as an act of aggression and that any invasion force regardless of its stated reasons for entering Syria will be sent back in “wooden coffins”… … …

(Finian Cunningham) ~ Syrian state forces have every right to extirpate all illegally armed groups on the sovereign territory of Syria. While the Geneva negotiations were in process, the main foreign conduits of military supply to the mercenaries –Turkey and Saudi Arabia –had not desisted from their illegal interference in Syria. That was in flagrant violation of the United Nations Security Council resolutions in November and December calling for a global clampdown on terrorist organizations.

Not only were Turkey and Saudi Arabia continuing to supply illegally armed groups inside Syria, these two Western allies had included terrorist organizations into the so-called “opposition”at the Geneva talks. The grandly named High Negotiating Committee demanded it would only continue participating on the condition that the Assad government eventually stands down. That’s the real, proximate reason for breakdown, no matter what John Kerry might say.

Can you believe it? A bunch of foreign-backed and exiled-based terrorists dictating terms to the elected government of Syria. Their foot-soldiers are getting wiped out on the ground –after five years of inflicting destruction on Syria –and yet these impostors are attempting to write the “peace terms”… … …

(Finnian Cunnigham) ~ The main problem resides with the United States and Saudi Arabia both insisting that two militant groups should be part of the opposition to the Syrian government.

Those groups are Jaish al-Islam (Army of Islam) and Ahrar al-Shams (Nation of Syria).

Both are connected logistically and ideologically with Al Qaeda terror groups, including the so-called Islamic State.

The delay in the Geneva talks getting underway is because the Syrian government and its foreign ally, Russia, stipulate that neither Jaish al-Islam nor Ahrar al-Islam are allowed at the negotiating table.

Because they are terrorist organizations.

The purpose for their inclusion is to expedite Washington’s agenda of regime change in Syria, and has nothing to do with finding a genuinely peaceful settlement.

What the media should be saying is that the political talks on Syria are being held to ransom by the insistence of including terrorist groups in the negotiations.

And the people insisting on the terror groups partaking are Washington and its regional Arab allies.

That truth is far too grim to admit to public knowledge and discussion.

For such truth would indict Washington as a terror sponsor, answerable to international law.

The blackmail with which John Kerry would threaten Lavrov would be to accuse Russia at the Security Council of the United Nations of wanting undermine the meetings of peace…while we know rather well that it is precisely the U.S. who want to boycott in any way the meeting in Geneva, trying to prolong as much as possible the armed conflicts by the mercenary gangs at their service (by Saudi-Turkish hands) and boosting the terrorist attacks against the Syrian population.

With the announcement of US special forces joining Western-backed militants on the ground in Syria, many still appear confused as to exactly what the implications of this move are.

As if to assure the public that indeed, the move is to use the so-called Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL) as a pretext to invade and occupy Syrian territory, the Washington Post has published an article explaining the move in detail titled, “Obama has strategy for Syria, but it faces major obstacles.”

Of course, it should be noted that Turkey itself has been a NATO member since the 1950’s, with a US airbase located on Turkish territory at Incirlik for nearly as long. Since the war started in Syria in 2011, the US has admittedly operated along the Turkish-Syrian border. The New York Times and the Washington Post itself has reported on numerous occasions regarding the US Central Intelligence Agency steering weapons to militant groups across this very border.

There are also multi-billion dollar refugee camps built in a joint effort between Western governments and nongovernmental organizations and the Turkish government itself along the border, as well as US-run training camps for “moderate rebels.”

The question becomes then, if ISIS is receiving the summation of its “foreign fighters, money, and materiael” from Turkey, and the US is operating all along the Turkish border, why isn’t it being interdicted before it reaches Syria?

Obama’s regime try to protect its moderate cannibals.

The New York Times in its recent article, “Russians Strike Targets in Syria, but Not ISIS Areas,” attempts to frame Russia’s recent actions in Syria as dishonest and dangerous. It reports:

~”Russian aircraft carried out a bombing attack against Syrian opposition fighters on Wednesday, including at least one group trained by the C.I.A., eliciting angry protests from American officials and plunging the complex sectarian war there into dangerous new territory”~.

This of course would only make Russia’s actions dishonest or dangerous if groups trained by the US CIA were in fact the “moderates” the US claims they are. However, they are not, and thus Russia’s actions are duly justified as is the expansion of their current policy.

For months now, after years of headlines confirming the US has been covertly arming militants in Syria for the purpose of overthrowing the government in Damascus, a narrative revolving around tens of thousands of these militants “defecting” to Al Nusra and the so-called “Islamic State” (ISIS/ISIL) has been peddled to the public by the Western media and US politicians to account for the apparent failure of America’s alleged policy of creating an army of “moderates” to both fight ISIS/Al Qaeda and the Syrian government.

In reality, from the beginning, there were never any moderates. Starting as early as 2007, years before the war in Syria began, the US as a matter of policy had long since decided to intentionally fund and support the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood – for all intents and purposes the political wing of Al Qaeda – and begin arming militants affiliated with Al Qaeda itself.

Russia is Bombing Al Qaeda

This leads back to the most recent New York Times article. Russia is not arbitrarily bombing “moderates” backed by the US in Syria to stave off allegedly “legitimate” opposition to the government in Damascus – Russia is bombing terrorists who are either operating under the banner of Al Qaeda but are portrayed as otherwise by the US, or will inevitably end up turning their fighters and weapons over to Al Qaeda. Russia is bombing Al Qaeda.

The Syrian conflict started in March 2011 in the southern agro-center of Der’ah. It is now late September in 2015, 4 and 1/2 years later and the war has gone from a series of demonstrations mixed with cunningly deployed snipers, whose task it was to kill civilians while blaming it on the Assad government, to a full-fledged foreign-backed war designed to overthrow the legally elected government of Dr. Assad and supplant it with a backward (read: malleable) Wahhabist regime of obeisant monkeys and cockroaches.

That is the Neo-Con/Zionist plan hatched in the Western capitals of the so-called First World. It has been a disaster no less agonizing than Bush’s mutton-headed decision to invade Saddam’s Iraq.
