(This RT Documentary was first published here on Jul 10, 2017)

  • TV reporter Rabie Deebh has been covering the Syrian Army’s military operations since 2011. He has been wounded several times and was partially paralysed for three months. After his recovery he went straight back to the place where he almost lost his life and resumed his work as a war reporter. He says his job is like an addiction, but his main purpose is to convey the truth of what is happening on the frontlines.
  • Yara Saleh and her TV crew were abducted and held for ransom. One of Yara’s colleagues was executed. Kept in a basement, beaten and threatened, the remaining three crew members barely escaped with their lives when their captors were confronted by the Syrian Army. Despite this horrific experience, Yara continues working as a TV reporter.
  • Laymona is a single mother of two and a passionate war reporter. She is always ready to rush to the site of a suicide bomb attack and is not afraid of interviewing armed militants. She is acutely aware of the perilous nature of her work, but says her job is her way of helping the country she loves.
  • Every day Syrian war reporters witness the deaths of soldiers, civilians and their own colleagues. Yet, every day they go to work to cover suicide bombings, conflict and military operations. They rely on luck or God to keep them safe, but what really keeps them going is the belief that they are assisting their beloved Motherland at a very difficult time.

The Hope for Peace Never Dies: “I am Sameer from Damascus”

War has been raging in Syria for five years, causing millions to leave the country. This is the story of some who’ve stayed. When the bloody conflict began, many Syrians had to put their lives on hold until the situation stabilised. But even after five years, there’s still no end in sight to the devastating war. Many civilians have lost their homes, their possessions and even loved ones. In an attempt to preserve at least some semblance of normality in their lives, people have learnt to live in the violently conflicted state. Just as in times of peace, they go to the market, meet in cafes, work, marry and organise big weddings. In Damascus, there’s been less devastation than in many other big Syrian cities, and so the capital welcomed many internally displaced refugees, but even here, no one is truly safe. Shells explode and kill indiscriminately, destroying roads, cars, buildings and killing anyone who happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Sameer Alfarra is a cameraman for a Syrian TV Channel. He came to Damascus from Aleppo, fleeing the fighting and leaving his house and businesses behind. As the war progressed, he saw the strength of character in the ordinary Syrians who chose to remain in their home country. After filming people’s stories every day, visiting new sites of destruction and losing colleagues as war casualties, he knows better than anyone, what it takes for Syrian people to carry on with their lives, every day. Through his camera lens, he wants to show us the toll war has taken on the Syrian people as well as their unbroken spirit and how, through all the hardships and grief, they still manage to preserve love and hope for a peaceful future.

~ “USEFUL ATROCITIES” ~ By Eva Bartlett ~ Zeroanthropology ~

Maya Naser, Ali Abbas, Hamza Hajj Hassan (Lebanese), Mohamad Muntish (Lebanese), Halim Alou (Lebanese)…all were media workers killed by the Western-backed ‘insurgents’ in Syria. Their deaths were reported by local media, some even got a passing notice in corporate media, but none resulted in a media frenzy of horror and condemnations as came with the alleged killings of Westerners. Another at least 20 Arab journalists have been killed by NATO’s death squads in Syria in the past few years.

The killing of 16 Palestinian journalists in Gaza, at least 7 targeted while working, during the July/August 2014 Zionist Genocide of Gaza, also fell on deaf ears. Nor were the previous years of murdering Palestinian journalists noted, let alone whipped into a media frenzy. [see also: Silencing the Press, Sixteenth Report, Documentation of Israeli Attacks against Media Personnel in the opt ]

In Syria, there are thousands of civilians and Syrian soldiers who have been beheaded—and in far more brutal and realistic manner than the SITE videos insinuate—by the so-called “moderate” Free Syrian Army (FSA), al-Nusra, Da’esh (ISIS), and hoards of other Western-backed mercenaries. At the hands of the various NATO-gangs, tens of thousands more civilians have been assassinated and subjected to various sadistic practices—torture, mutilation, crucifixion, burning in ovens, throwing into wells, and a sick lot more. Thousands more, including children and women, remain missing after being kidnapped during mercenary raids and massacres.

Apart from the thousands more individual slaughters, there are also numerous massacres, mostly overlooked or simply lied about in the media.
