Hundreds of US Marines have arrived in Syria to establish an outpost in support of the operation to retake the city of Raqqa, the de-facto Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) capital in the country, the US-led coalition confirmed on Thursday.
“We are talking about an additional 400 or so forces in total, and they will be there for a temporary period,” coalition spokesman US Air Force Colonel John Dorrian said.
The Washington Post, which was the first to break the news citing anonymous defense officials, stated that the marines will be working to establish an outpost from which they can fire artillery in support of the fight for Raqqa.
According to the newspaper, the new deployment is part of an amphibious task force of the 11th US Marine Expeditionary Unit, which left San Diego on Navy ships in October. It includes part of an artillery battery that can fire 155mm shells from M777 Howitzers.
The Washington Post said that the marines will be based within no more than 32km (20 miles) from the frontline outside Raqqa, as that is the maximum range of their artillery………………………..

Russia and Syria claimed surprise when the Kurdish defense forces withdrew from positions around Aleppo, shuttling in al Nusra forces who are now not only advised by Turkish military but actually include all Turkish units now operating inside Syria itself.
Based on what we now see from the Raqqah drive by the Kurds from the North, another phony attack on ISIS, and the new clear cooperative agreement between ISIS and al Nusra, we know this for sure.

Units of Kurdish militia have abandoned defenses in Aleppo’s Sheikh Maqsood and retreated, a spokesman for the Russian center for reconciliation of opposing sides in Syria said on Saturday.
Over the past 24 hours, terrorists delivered strikes from multiple rocket launchers, mortars and anti-aircraft guns on the residential areas of Handrat, Sheikh Maqsood, al-Muhafaza, al-Zahraa and al-Nayrab airport in the city of Aleppo.
Also, the residential localities of Kinsibba and Nahshebba in the Latakia region and Fua and Kafr Haya in the Idlib region came under shelling.
The meeting between American, Turkish, Israeli and SDF representatives, joined by military operational leaders of the Free Syrian Army, ISIS and al Nusra, outlined a staged “theatrical” chain of events intended to move ISIS ostensibly out of Northern Syria and replace them with a Turkish/Israeli consortium which has, in actuality, managed ISIS all along.
This schedule, we believe, was arranged for in Azaz, indicating full cooperation between the US, Turkey, Israel and terrorist forces in both Syria and Iraq, and that Kurdish forces are fully complicit.

Turkey has shelled Syrian Kurdish forces in northern Syria for the fourth day in a row as Ankara tries to stop the YPG from claiming the town of Azaz, which is just 8km from the Turkish border.
Turkish artillery units in the southeastern province of Kilis fired shells at Kurdish targets on Tuesday morning, in areas that were under the control of the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD), Today’s Zaman daily reports, citing the Dogan news agency.
The sound of shelling could be heard from Kilis city center, just kilometers from the Syrian border.
A Turkish official said on Tuesday that Ankara will ask its coalition partners, including the US, to take part in a joint ground operation in Syria.
“Turkey is not going to have a unilateral ground operation. We are asking coalition partners that there should be a ground operation. We are discussing this with allies,” the official told reporters at a briefing in Istanbul, as cited by Reuters.
“We want a ground operation. If there is a consensus, Turkey will take part. Without a ground operation, it is impossible to stop this war.”

(Finian Cunningham) ~ An end to the Syrian conflict is desperately needed. But the latest plan for a cessation of violence is unlikely to take hold, as the deal struck by international powers is based on fundamentally opposing premises.
In short, Washington and its allies want regime change, while Russia and Iran insist that President Bashar Assad and his government are the legitimate ruling authorities in Syria. All sides are mandated by UN resolutions to respect the sovereign will of the Syrian people – to determine the political future of their country.
But the Western powers and their regional partners, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Qatar in particular, are insisting – explicitly or implicitly – on their objective of ousting Assad. This premise of unlawful interference in the affairs of a sovereign state is the crux of the problem, and why the latest seeming agreement for a nationwide truce is as thin as the paper it is written on.
US Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced the proposal for a cessation of hostilities following six hours of negotiations with 15 other member states belonging to the International Syria Support Group in Munich last Friday. The truce is supposed to come into effect later this week.
The truce outlined in an ISSG communique does not apply to two militant groups: Islamic State (IS, also known as ISIL/ISIL or Daesh) and the Jabhat al Nusra Front. Both are linked to Al Qaeda and are officially listed by international governments as terrorist organizations. The provision also exempts “other terror groups” but does not specify the names. This is a major loophole in the proposed truce deal which will make its application extremely problematic if not infeasible.
That loophole also alludes to the foreign-backed nature of the conflict in Syria.

Fighters from the Kurdish Self-Defense Forces have begun storming the city of Tel Rifaat besieged by terrorists and located approximately 12 miles from the border with Turkey in Syria’s Aleppo province, a source from the self-defense forces said Monday.
“Kurdish fighters began storming the city of Tel Rifaat from the northern flank. One of the largest al-Nusra Front’s stongholds is there. The city is of strategic importance and is on the road leading from Turkey,” the source told RIA Novosti.

The Syrian government has confirmed that its army positions were targeted by Turkish shelling on Saturday, which also hit the positions of the Syrian Kurdish militias in the northern Aleppo province. Turkish shelling reportedly continued Sunday.
The Syrian government has condemned the Turkish shelling of Syrian territory and described it as direct support for “terrorist” groups, Syrian state media reported Sunday, citing a letter to the United Nations.
Turkish troops shell airport and village held by Kurds inside Syria.
The shelling targeted the Menagh military air base and the nearby village of Maranaz.
Kurdish forces and the Syrian Army had taken control of the air base on Thursday.
The Menagh base had previously been controlled by the Ahrar ash-Sham Islamist terrorist gangs, which seized it in August of 2013. Ahrar ash-Sham jihadist mercenaries at the base had been supported by Al-Nusra terrorists and some other gangs of barbarian apes coming from Turkey.
Ahrar ash-Sham is a terrorist gang that has trained teenagers to commit acts of terror in Damascus, Homs, and Latakia provinces, according to data provided to the Russian Defense Ministry by Syrian opposition forces.
The group was getting serious reinforcements from Turkey, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said during a briefing in Moscow on January 21.

Iraqi Turkmen leaders say the local Kurdish government is exploiting the war on Daesh to dig a trench that will divide the country.They said the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is digging the trench in the conflict lines between Daesh and Kurdish forces across northern Iraq.
“We see this move to dig a trench as suspicious,” AFP quoted Arshad al-Salehi, the head of the Iraqi Turkmen Front, as saying.
The United States has deployed about 200 special operations forces to Iraq “to work with” the Iraqi military in the fight against the Daesh terrorist group, according to US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter.
“The specialized expeditionary targeting force I announced in December is now in place and is preparing to work with the Iraqis to begin going after ISIL’s fighters and commanders,” Carter said at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, on Wednesday.
The new force is separate from another deployment last year of about 50 US special operations troops in Syria to work with US-backed militants fighting the Syrian government.

The Syrian army and the Kurdish Popular Defense Committees gained control over ISIL’s most important bastion in Hasaka province on Wednesday.
The ISIL lost control of the Abdel Aziz Mountain, located 38 kilometers to the Southwest of Hasaka today.
The Syrian army troops and the Kurdish fighters attacked ISIL’s positions in Western Hasaka province and rapidly gained control over Um Kahif and the Eastern side of Abdel Aziz Mountain.

A security source in Diyala said that DAESH (ISIS) terrorists have executed a citizen while trying to videotape an unidentified helicopter landing in one of the northern agricultural villages of Muqdadiyah through ISIS control over these areas in the past periods
Residents of one of the farming villages said that DAESH organization has arrested one of the citizens during filming the landing of an aircraft of the International Alliance with his mobile telephone, adding that one of the elements of the organization was able to detect the person who was hiding behind a one of the houses in farming village and took him to the leaders of the organization before he completed filming.
The source asserts that Daesh elements beaten and left him clinically dead for several days before being executed, indicating that the plane landed in the village for 15 to 20 minutes and flew again, according to eyewitnesses. The Population Information confirmed that ISIS imposed a security cordon around the landing area to prevent people from watching the landing

The Iraqi popular forces who shot down a US helicopter carrying weapons for the ISIL forces in Al-Baqdadi region released the photos of the shot down chopper through the Internet.
A group of Iraqi popular forces known as Al-Hashad Al-Shabi shot down the US Army helicopter that was carrying weapons for the ISIL in the western parts of Al-Baqdadi region in Al-Anbar province on Thursday.
Last week, Head of the Iraqi Parliament’s National Security and Defense Committee Hakem al-Zameli announced that the helicopters of the US-led anti-ISIL coalition were dropping weapons and foodstuff for the ISIL terrorists in the Southern parts of Tikrit.

Thousands of Iraqi Christians have established their own military group and are training to fight ISIL in the Nineveh Plains of northern Iraq, The Arab Source reported.
Iraq expert Sajad Jiyad: “The Assyrians want their land back and they – as well as the Turkmen and the Yazidis – are sending a message that: ‘We are going to come back and we are not going to leave our villages and towns and our cultures to be destroyed. We want to come back to our homes and, no matter what we face, we’re willing to fight and take that back.’ I think that is a positive message for the entire nation.”
Last year, ISIL captured Iraq’s largest Christian town, Qaraqosh, forcing tens of thousands of residents to flee. The towns of Tal Kayf, Bartella and Karamlesh were also seized by the ‘jihadists’. It is estimated that over 100,000 Christians have been displaced in the semi-autonomous Kurdistan region of northern Iraq because of the ISIL advance.
John Michael, a British-Assyrian in Iraq, told the Catholic Herald: “This is our last stand, if this fails then Christianity will be finished in Iraq”.
Before 2003, the number of Christians in Mosul was approximately 60,000 before the US army invaded Iraq in 2003 when the town’s Christian population has started to decrease rapidly.

1) – Syrian security sources disclosed that the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorist group is using the state-of-the-art weapons which are only manufactured by the US, adding that the largest such cargo has been dispatched to the terrorists just recently.

Kurdish fighters had pushed DAESH-ISIS terrorist gangs out of Kobane (Ain al-Arab) after 4 months of battle.
In Iraq meanwhile, a senior army officer announced that Iraqi forces had also “liberated” Diyala province DAESH terrorist gangs.
Mustafa Ebdi, a kurdish fighter from Kobane said to local reporters that at the moment there is no more fighting inside the town.
YPG forces were advancing carefully in Maqtala because of the threat of mines and car bombs.
The loss of Kobane (Ain al-Arab) would be a key symbolic blow against DAESH gangs, which has lost more than 1,000 men since it began its advance on the town on September 16/2014.

Senior commanders in Syria said the Kurdish forces have gained control over 90 percent of the border town of Kobani, underlining that the town will be fully liberated from ISIL control in the coming days.
“The main parts of Kobani are under the control of our forces and we will see liberation of Kobani and restoration of full security to the town in the next few days,” the commander stated on Saturday.
He noted that the Kurdish fighters are now controlling more than 90 percent of Kobani after three months of clashes with ISIL terrorists.

Ankara, 2/12/2014 ~ Leader of the Turkish Peoples Democratic Party (HDP) unveiled Monday that there are photos video outlets proves that the explosion in the Syrian northern city of Ayn al-Arab a couple of days ago was launched by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) starting from the Turkish lands.
More than 17 members of ISIS terrorist organization were killed Saturday in fierce clashes with the popular units defending Ayn al-Arab city, northeast of Aleppo following the explosion of a car bomb at the city’s northern crossing and following the explosion, ISIS terrorists launched several attacks and clashed with the popular defense units.
Democratic Union Party ( known as PYD) Co-Chairwoman Asia Abdulla confirmed that ISIS used Turkish lands in executing the attack on Ayn Al-Arab since there is no road linking the explosion site and the city (Ai-Al-Arab) except from the Turkish side.
Abdulla expressed, in a press statement, confidence that the “the bobby-trapped vehicle entered Ayn Al-Arab from Turkey a hundred percent”, confirming that ISIS has already committed such crimes against Tal –Al-Shair to the west of Ayn Al-Arab as videos and photos prove that.

Kuwaiti Commander of Daesh Gangs Gunned Down by Syrian National Defence Forces in Deir Ezzur.
Syrian National Defence Forces killed a Kuwaiti commander of Daeswh-IS terrorist gangs in the Eastern parts of Syria.
According with local sources, the mercenary commander was killed in an attack in Albu Kamal city of Deir Ezzur province, while he was driving his car, on Saturday night.
Syrian Arab Army and National Defence Forces continue targeting foreign mercenaries and barbarian terrorist gangs in several provinces.
Units of the Army and Armed Forces on Sunday targeted foreign-backed terrorists in many areas across the country, killing numbers of them and wounding others, in addition to thwarting infiltration attempts.

By Mahdi Darius Nazemroaya (strategic-culture.org – globalresearch.ca) ~ A war is being fought for control over Western Kurdistan and the northern areas of Syria, including three de facto Kurdish enclaves there.
The fighting in Western Kurdistan is a means to an end and not a goal in itself.
The objectives of gaining control over Syrian Kurdistan and northern Syria are critical to gaining control over the rest of the Syrian Arab Republic and entail US-supported regime change in Damascus.
The Syrian government rejected the suggestions coming from Ankara and Washington for foreign ground troops on its territory and for the establishment of a northern buffer zone. Damascus said these were intentions for blatant aggression against Syria. It released a statement on October 15 saying that it would consult its «friends».
In context of the US-Turkish invasion plans, the Turkish government was monitoring the reactions and attitudes of Russia, Iran, China, and the independent segments of the international community not beholden to Washington’s foreign policy objective. Both the Kremlin and Tehran reacted by warning the Turkish government to forget any thoughts about sending ground troops into Syrian Kurdistan and on Syrian soil.
The Syrian government knows that Washington’s anti-ISIL coalition is a façade and that the masquerade could end with a US-led offensive against Damascus if the US government and Pentagon believe that the conditions are right.
On November 6, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Al-Muallem told the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar that Syria had asked the Russian Federation to accelerate the delivery of the S-300 anti-aircraft surface-to-air missile system to prepare for a possible Pentagon offensive… … …

The Kurdish Popular Protection Units (YPG) forces will not allow FSA to enter Kobani.
“We welcome the entrance of Kurdish Pishmarga forces, but the FSA forces commanded by Abdul Jabbar al-Agedi can fight the ISIL in other places like Jerablus and Manbij (not in Kobani),” YPG Commander Siban Hamou.
He warned that the terrorists will massacre the people of Kobani in case they manage to capture the city.
“The documents carried by those terrorists who have been killed show that they are mostly foreigners and come from Chechnia, Turkey, Morocco, Egypt, Belgium and France to Syria and their passports have all been sealed in Turkey,” Issou said.
