President al-Assad made a telephone call with General Aoun, wishing him success in his new missions and that this step would form a new era in the Lebanese political life and contribute to boosting its stability and achieving a better future for the Lebanese people.
Lebanon’s newly elected President Michel Aoun received numerous phone calls from regional and international leaders who congratulated him on winning the presidential vote.

The Parliament of Lebanon elected on Monday Gen. Michel Aoun, the head of the Reform and Change Bloc, as President of Lebanon. Aoun received 83 votes out of the votes of 127 MPs who attended the electoral session, with 36 of the remaining votes being blank ballots while 8 were ruled non-valid. Afterwards, Aoun took the constitutional oath as President, ending the vacancy in the Presidency of Lebanon that lasted since the end of the term of former President Michel Sleiman on May 25, 2014.
In addition to Lebanese MPs and ministers, the election session was attended by diplomats and dignitaries from across the world.
Aoun has been a running candidate from the beginning, backed by Hezbollah, who repeatedly reiterated that the 81-year-old veteran Christian leader is qualified for such post….>>>…
