Everyone has read about the illegal assault on fighters with the Popular Defense Forces who were targeted by American aircraft and artillery as they were lawfully moving north between the villages of Khushaam and Al-Taabiyya in northeast Dayr El-Zor. 

Some reports in the Western Media claim that over 100 “pro-Assad regime troops” were killed by the noble and democracy-loving yanks. 

That is not true.

The actual number of fighters killed in the convoy heading north is around 22, with civilians being the largest casualty. 

The civilians were accompanying the PDC, for safety’s sake, as they were heading back to their homes. 

The U.S. bombed civilians, murdering over 100 men, women and children.

Russian military: U.S.-led coalition struck Syrian troops conducting operation against Daesh cells in Deir Ezzor province

Syrian government forces were conducting a military operation against ISIS cells in the area of al-Isba in the province of Deir Ezzor when they were struck by the US-led coalition’s aircraft on February 7, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement on February 8.

According to the statement, the ISIS recently increased activity in the area sparking response from the government forces.

“Shelling of the positions of Syrian pro-government forces has increased during the past days near the communities of Mazloum, At-Tabiyyah and Khsham in the Deir ez-Zor Governorate [Deir Ezzor province], to where the civilian population is returning. Radio interception revealed that the Syrian troops were shelled by militants from an ISIS sleeper cell that had activated in the area,” the ministry said.

A local militia was conducting reconnaissance actions in the area to detect and eliminate the ISIS cell when it was surprisingly shelled by mortars, rocket launched and then the US-led coalition’s attack helicopters. 25 militiamen were injured as a result of the attack.

Why the U.S. should end its manufactured war on Syria, and leave

The international civil society has on many occasions made it absolutely clear that the United States and its occupying troops don’t belong in Syria. They should end their manufactured war and leave.

At its simplest, there are many reasons for this:
– As the wars on Afghanistan and Iraq have demonstrated, the civilian death toll from US military aggression has been high. This is no way to pay tribute to those killed by America’s terror proxies ISIL and Al-Qaeda.
– In Syria, except for America’s favourite terrorists, no one supports Washington’s so-called ‘humanitarian intervention’, much less its bogus war on ISIL and Al-Qaeda.
– At the United Nations, there is no consensus that would permit America’s intervention or occupation of the Arab country. The presence of US occupying troops to effect regime change in Damascus risks broadening the conflict into another Cold War, while also inviting Israel, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey to become even more heavily involved than they currently are. Such a broadening of the conflict is in nobody’s interests.

The Syrian government with support from its Russian, Iranian, and Lebanese allies has embarked on a major military operation to retake parts of Syria’s northern governorate of Idlib. As it does so, the US and its regional allies are rushing to position themselves to ensure the permanent partition of Syria is achieved. 

As Syrian forces push deeper into Idlib they have come up against a large amount of foreign-provided weaponry including US anti-tank missiles and even fleets of armored vehicles including Panthera F9 armored personnel carriers – joint-developed by the UAE and Ukraine and manufactured in Turkey.

Despite the formidable arsenal provided to militants – the majority of which fight under the banner of Al Qaeda and its affiliates – Syria and its allies maintain air superiority. The US tried – and failed – to establish what US policymakers have called a “safe haven” or “buffer zone” in northern Syria where US military might could provide shelter for militants from Syrian and Russian airpower… … …

… … …And while US efforts to destroy Syria have fallen short, the US now permanently occupies territory within one of Iran’s closest and most important regional allies. Like a splinter under the skin turning septic, the US occupation will remain a constant potential source of wider infection both for Syria and the rest of the region.

The successes or failures of both Syria and its allies and Turkey in northern Syria over the following weeks and months will determine just how big a splinter is left as the conflict enters its final phases.

Turkey launched the “Olive Branch” military operation against the Kurdish region of Afrin, north-west of Syria. The code name was released by the Turkish Chief of Staff who explained that the operation aims to prevent the spread of the People’s Protection Units and the Democratic Union Party along the Syrian borders with Turkey, which represented a menace to the Turkish national security.

The US attitude towards the Kurds in Afrin was quite interesting, because the US General Vottel declared himself “not concerned about what is happening in the Kurdish enclave in the north-west of Syria” where Washington used the Kurds to attack ISIS. It is no longer surprising that the US look after its interests rather than its allies, as indeed happened in Kurdistan Iraq when Erbil declared its independence; it was promptly abandoned by the US.

But what are the details agreed before the beginning of the operation, allowing Turkey to venture into an area under the Russian control? And how did things get so far, pushing Turkey to venture into an area under Russian influence with military police, and following a clear threat from Damascus to shoot down any Turkish aircraft, with Russia strengthening its positions inside the city the day before the beginning of the Turkish operation “Olive Branch” against Afrin?

The Turkish armed forces have advanced into Azaz region East of Afrin within the framework of the Olive Branch Operation in Northern Syria, a Turkish media outlet reported on Monday.
The state-run Anadolu news agency reported that the Turkish army has continued its ground assault as the Olive Branch Operation entered its third day.

Anadolu said that the army men have advanced into the Azaz region too to expand the scope of the operation.

President Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday that Turkey would not take a step back from the operation in the Afrin region. He also said that Ankara had an agreement with Russia regarding its military operation against a US-backed Kurdish militia.

After negotiations between Russia/Syria and the Kurds of Afrin had failed, the Russian side made a deal with Turkey. Now Turkey attacks Afrin while everyone else looks aside. The main impetus for this development was the announcement of a U.S. occupation in north-east Syria with the help of the Kurdish YPG/PKK. The occupation strategy is already failing. The Kurds made the false choice. They will be the losers of this game.

Turkey is now attacking the Afrin canton in full force. With help from one George Orwell the operation was dubbed “Olive Branch”.

The Turkish operation to go after Afrin was triggered by two events. The more important one was the U.S. announcement of a permanent occupation of north-east Syria with the help of a 30,000 men strong SDF “border protection force” consisting of mainly Kurds and some Arabs who earlier fought under ISIS.

The U.S. move was amateurish. It ignored the security needs of its NATO ally Turkey in exchange for an illegal and unsustainable occupation of north-east Syria. Secretary of State Tillerson tried to calm the Turks by claiming that the “border protection force” was not for border protection.

A second motive for the Turkish operation was the success of the Syrian army in the east-Idleb where “Free Syrian Army” and al-Qaeda Takfiris supported by Turkey were eliminated by Syrian Army attacks… … …

The Syrian war is taking a momentous turn with a full-fledged Turkish military operation on the northern Syrian town of Afrin having begun on Saturday. President Recep Erdogan announced today that a ground operation has also been launched alongside artillery bombardment and air strikes. He said an operation against the town of Manbij, some 140 miles to the east, will follow later.

Afrin and Manbij are presently controlled by the Syrian Kurdish forces aligned with the US. The US, which has 5 bases in northern Syria in the territories controlled by the Kurdish militia, has directly helped the occupation of Manbij by the Kurdish militia in 2016. Thus, the Turkish operation signifies a strategic defiance of the US. Washington had repeatedly urged Ankara against making any military moves against the Kurdish militia.

But what finally proved decisive seems to be the US plan to create a 30000-strong Kurdish force in northern Syria with the intention to use it as a proxy. Erdogan senses that the US is going ahead with the project to create a Kurdish enclave in northern Syria along the Turkish border as a strategic hub for its future interventions in Syria and Iraq. Of course, such a Kurdistan enclave will pose a long-term national security threat to Turkey by giving fillip to Kurdish separatists in Turkey. Erdogan kept pleading with Washington not to align with the Kurds but of no avail and has now decided to take matters into his hands.

Syrian War Report [12 December 2017]: Govt Forces Liberated 67,000-km2 Over 7 Months

Over 1,000 localities, 78 oil and gas fields and two deposits of phosphate ores have been liberated in Syria over the past 227 days, commander of Russia’s military group in Syria Colonel-General Sergey Surovikin has told Russian President Vladimir Putin during this visit to the Khmeimim airbase on December 12. In total, the area of 67,000 square kilometers has been liberated.

Col. Gen. Surovikin added that Russian warplanes have flown 6,956 sorties and helicopters have conducted more than 7,000 sorties killing over 32,000 militants and destroying 394 battle tanks and 12,000 pieces of other equipment.

The general revealed that Russia is set to withdraw 23 warplanes of different types and 2 Ka-52 attack helicopters, the military police force, the commando unit, the field hospital and the mine-clearing center. The remaining forces will continue conducting tasks in the country.

Thus, some number of attack helicopters and warplanes will remain in the country. The Khmeimim airbase and the Tartus naval facility will remain operational. Moscow will also continue providing supplies to the Syrian Arab Army (SAA).

Russian President Vladimir Putin endorsed a bill ratifying a protocol to the 2015 agreement between Moscow and Damascus regulating the deployment of the Russian Air Force in Syria for 49 years.

The protocol signed by Russia and Syria in January 2017 regulated issues related to the deployment of the Russian Air Force on Syrian territory as well as related to Russia’s exercise of jurisdiction over its military movable and immovable assets on Syrian territory, AMN reported.

It also covers the measures needed to maintain the operation efficiency of the Russia Air Force.

Under the protocol, the Russian Air Force are allowed to stay on Syrian territory for 49 years with an option of automatically extending that arrangement for 25-year periods after this term expires.

The document, published on the Russian official legal information website, particularly says that the Syrian government is handing over a plot of land in Lattakia province, where the Humeimim Air Base is located, over to Russia for its free use.

The bill ratifying the protocol was signed by Putin on Thursday, according to a Kremlin statement.

Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Russian marine officers and sailors in St. Petersburg, Sunday, to mark the occasion of Russia’s Navy Day.

Russian President Vladimir Putin attends St. Petersburg’s maritime parade on Navy Day on Sunday, July 30. Around 50 ships of the Russian Navy and 70 aircraft of the naval aviation unit will take part in this year’s maritime parade.

Putin praised the troops, saying “Today, the Navy solves not only the traditional tasks, but also adequately meets new challenges, makes a significant contribution to the fight against terrorism, piracy.”

More than 50 ships and submarines took part in the parade, while more than 40 planes and helicopters flew above the city.

Navy Day is celebrated in Russia on July 30 with military parades taking place across the country. The celebration dates back to the Soviet era, having been established in 1939. It was stopped in 1980 then reinstated by Putin in 2003.

The Syrian Arab Army has reached the Iraqi border, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense. Russian ministry officers also accused the U.S. forces of hindering the Syrian war effort against terrorism by blocking SAA attacks against Daesh (ISIS) near the Syrian border with Iraq

While we don’t have a lot of details yet, here’s what we can say: this is a brilliant move if true. Not exactly a checkmate yet, but definitely a check on US ambitions in southern Syria.

In essence, as Americans were busy bombing small Syrian groups entering their declared exclusion zone via the main road, a separate Syrian force staged a lightning-quick advance through roadless desert, well to the east of the “deconfliction” zone enveloping the Americans.

If the U.S. forces are not cut off from ISIS they no longer have an excuse to continue occupying this part of Syria. (Or will they insist they get to leapfrog over the Syrian army?)

Russians are saying it will be them and the Syrians — rather than the Americans — who will be advancing along the Iraqi border towards al-Bukamal (the major border crossing in the Euphrates valley coveted by the Pentagon)

Russian officers also accused the US of hindering the Syrian war effort against ISIS, by blocking its military from opening a new front against the group: “The coalition air forces and the strongholds of the forces of New Syrian Army have blocked the way of the government forces, tasked with defeating IS groups.”

“This is a violation of the sovereign right of Syria to protect it borders.”

Apparently in sync with the Syrian army move south, Iraqi forces likewise advanced against ISIS from their side and met on the border. Thus Syria has not just reached the formal Iraqi border, but actually re-established an actual link to Iraq.

A Syrian Arab Army unit carried out a military operation targeting an Daesh (ISIS, ISIL, IS…) gathering to the west of Deir Ezzor Airport. Syrian Agency reporters in the province said Sunday that the army destroyed a machinegun and eliminated most of the ISIS group’s members in the surrounding of Liwa al-Taamin, to the west of Deir Ezzor Airport.

In Daraa, Syrian Army units clashed with Jabhat al-Nusra terrorists who launched attacks against the locals’ houses and military points in al-Manshiyeh neighborhood in Daraa al-Balad area in the southern province of Daraa.

The army units confronted the assault that was launched from various directions towards the southeastern part of al-Manshiyeh neighborhood. Local reporters pointed out that the terrorist organizations targeted in parallel with their assault with artillery, mortar shells, home-made Jahannam (hell) cannons and heavy machineguns the residential buildings in al-Manshiyeh neighborhood, claiming two lives and injuring several people, in addition to causing huge material damage to houses and infrastructure. Heavy losses were inflicted upon the terrorist organizations in weaponry and personnel. Later, an army unit destroyed two booby-trapped vehicles for terrorist organizations to the southeast of al-Manshia neighborhood.

In Sweida, members of the Popular Defense groups thwarted two machine gun fire attacks launched by ISIS terrorists on civilians in the surroundings of Barek village in the northeastern countryside of Sweida. The terrorists, driving a vehicle equipped with a 23 mm machine gun to the west of Tal Saad, opened fire on a number of shepherds to the north of Barek village on Sunday morning with the aim to kill them and steal their cattle. Members of a popular defense group positioned in the area responded to the fire source, hitting the target directly.

Syrian Arab Army units repel terrorist attack on military posts in northeastern countryside of Lattakia: Syrian Army units in cooperation with the supporting forces repelled an attack by terrorist groups on a number of military posts in the northeastern countryside of Lattakia. A military source said the attack was launched by the terrorist groups from various directions targeting military posts in Kinsabba town and the mountains of Hassan al-Raei and al-Qalaa.
The attack was repelled and a number of terrorists were killed and others were injured, according to the source.

The army units expanded their control along the axis of al-Baiarat area in the framework of the continued military operations against ISIS terrorist organization in the eastern countryside of Homs.

Syrian Army units, in cooperation with the supporting forces, carried out a swift operation in which they assumed control of the villages of al-Beida al-Sharqiyeh and al-Beida al-Gharbiyeh to the east of the 4th Station in the direction of al-Baiarat.

The operation resulted in eliminating the last gathering of ISIS remaining the area and destroying a number of vehicles, while tens of Daesh (ISIS, ISIL, IS) terrorists fled away towards al-Badia (desert).

Army units also killed a number of ISIS terrorists and destroyed their vehicles in the direction of al-Mahr oil field in the northwestern countryside of Tadmur (Palmyra).

At the same time, a unit of the Syrian army targeted ISIS terrorists in al-Makabbat area, south of Deir Ezzor city, with a rocket fire, killing many of them and destroying a vehicle equipped with a heavy gun machine.

Army units established also control over the Third Battalion and al-Kassarart al-Sharqiyeh and al-Kassarat al-Gharbiyeh to the south and east of al-Seen airport in Damascus Countryside, according to a military source.

Earlier on the day, the source said a Syrian army unit, in cooperation with the suporting forces, established full control over a number of positions, among them Mansour 1 and 2, and inflicted heavy losses upon ISIS terrorists, destroying 6 of their vehicles, some equipped with heavy machineguns, in al-Emarati Farm, east of al-Seen Airport.

The source added that the army operations in those areas ended up with the killing of a number of ISIS terrorists and destroying a tank, an armored vehicle and 4 vehicles equipped with heavy machineguns.

He added that the Syrian Air Force carried out a series of airstrikes on ISIS positions in the surroundings of the graveyards area, Jenaid battalion, and the supplying brigade south of the city, which inflicted losses in personnel and equipment upon the terrorists.

Homs ~ A military source said that army units established full control over a large area about 15 km long and 25km wide which includes Fidda well, Fidda farm, and al-Hayr al-Gharbi castle to the south of T4 Airport 25 km in the countryside of Homs province, inflicting heavy loses in personnel and equipment upon ISIS terrorists.
Earlier, a military source said that army units destroyed 6 machinegun-equipped vehicles for ISIS in Ayed al-Hassoun hill and Oum al-Kheir hills in the eastern countryside of Homs province.

Daesh (ISIS,ISIL, IS) terrorists managed to enter Palmyra city in the eastern countryside of Homs province on Sunday following violent clashes with the Army and Armed Forces.

SANA’s correspondent in Homs said that Army and Armed Forces units defended the city valiantly as the terrorists attacked in large numbers exceeding 4,000 from various directions.

The correspondent quoted local sources as saying that ISIS transported large numbers of terrorists and vehicles to Palmyra from Raqqa and Deir Ezzor, and that they sustained heavy losses during the clashes in which they used many vehicles including ones rigged with large amounts of explosives.

Earlier, a military source said that Syrian Army and Armed Forces units clashed with ISIS terrorist groups that attacked military posts in the surroundings of Palmyra, and that the terrorists attacked in large numbers and from different directions, describing the clashes as “fierce.”

SANA’s correspondent had said that the Syrian Air Force carried out several sorties around Palmyra city, inflicting heavy losses upon ISIS members, and that army units repelled an ISIS attack in the surroundings of Palmyra, noting that the clashes are still ongoing at the site.

Other clashes broke out with ISIS terrorists who launched an assault from different directions towards the silos area, 10 km east of Palmyra, the reporter said.

Other ISIS attacks were launched against the Industrial City and Tallet al-Ameriyeh (hill) in the countryside of Palmyra as the terrorists tried to control the hill.

Syrian Arab Army units and the Armed Forces working in Homs aided by the Russian Air Force foiled a fierce attack of Daesh (ISIS, ISIL, IS…) terrorists on Palmyra city and the military checkpoints surrounding it in eastern Homs Province over the past night, killing or injuring hundreds of the terrorists.

Syrian National Agency reporters in Homs said that army units and the popular defense groups engaged in fierce clashes using different sorts of weapons with large groups of Daesh terrorists that attacked the military points spread in Palmyra area from the northern, eastern and southern sides.

The reporter said that the clashes ended with thwarting the attack from all the aforesaid axes and killing or injuring hundreds of the terrorists and destroying scores of their vehicles.

The reporter added that army units detonated last night two booby-trapped vehicles of the Takfiri organizations before they reached military posts in al-Sawame’ area.

He mentioned that the military sorties concentrated on Daesh supplying lines deep in the Badyia (desert) area, destroying three Daesh terrorists’ convoys of vehicles in al-Tyba, al-Sukhna and al-Lattoum areas to the east of Palmyra city.

A military source said that army units also repelled Daesh terrorists’ attack in the vicinity of al-Tar Mountain and al-Amiriyah town northeast Palmyra, killing scores of them and destroying 5 of their vehicles .

In the same context, Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement issued on Sunday and published by RT Website “Over the past night, with active Russian air support, Syrian government forces repulsed all attacks by the terrorists on Palmyra.”
“The militants actively used cars filled with explosives, armored vehicles, and rocket artillery. Russian aircraft carried out 64 airstrikes on militant gatherings, positions, columns, and reserves as they advanced,” it added.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation affirmed that security and stability were restored to 93% of the eastern neighborhoods of Aleppo city due to the Syrian army’s successful operations.

Chief of the Russian General Staff Main Operational Directorate Sergei Rudskoy stressed that Russian and Syrian warplanes have not carried out airstrikes around Aleppo since October 18, pointing out that as a result of a successful advance, 52 districts of eastern Aleppo have been freed from militants by the Syrian army’s ground forces.

Rudskoy pointed out that civilians who escaped from terrorists in the eastern neighborhoods of the city talked about torture and public executions by the so-called “moderate opposition” to prevent them from leaving towards the areas controlled by the Syrian army, adding that Russia is working on documenting all terrorists’ crimes.

He added that more than 1,000 militants have surrendered arms and left eastern Aleppo, 953 of them have been granted amnesty.

Rudskoy said that dozens of tons of humanitarian aid are delivered to liberated Aleppo districts on a daily basis in parallel with conducting the reconstruction of infrastructure and offering medical aid to the population, pointing out that civilians will be able to return to their houses in Aleppo and the whole other liberated residential areas soon….>>>…

Russia is deploying the military police from its Republic of Chechnya to Syria according to an amateur video appeared in the Social Media on December 7. The video allegedly shows preparations of over 100 Chechen military police members before their dispatch to Syria from the military base in Hankala, a settlement near the Chechen Republic’s capital – Grozny.

According to reports in the Russian media, Chechen fighters will guard crucial infrastructure, civilian and military objects in Syria. Russian experts suggest that at least a part of Chechen fighters will be dispatched to the city of Aleppo. With the full liberation of the city, the Syrian-Russian-Iranian alliance will have to improve humanitarian and security situation in the city damaged by the war.

Earlier, the head of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov, announced that some Chechen units already operate in Syria along with other units of the Russian Special Forces.

In total, Syrian government forces liberated from militants 50 neighborhoods of eastern Aleppo, the Russian Reconciliation Center in Syria announced in a statement late on Wednesday.

Jaish al-Fatah and Fatah Halab militant coalitions’ defenses are collapsing in the Syrian city of Aleppo under the pressure of pro-government forces.

Late on December 6 and early on December 7, the Syrian army, the National Defense Forces (NDF) and Liwa al-Quds set control over the areas east and north of the Aleppo Citadel and seized the almost whole neighborhood of Old Aleppo, including the Umayyad Mosque.

Russian military experts say they have found proof of the use of mustard gas by militants against civilians in the Syrian province of Aleppo.

The ammunition was used in a September attack on one of the villages in Aleppo province.

“An express-analysis of the contents [of ammunition] carried out using a portable infrared spectrometer revealed the presence of vesicant chemical warfare agent sulfur mustard [mustard gas],” Russian Troops of Radiological, Chemical and Biological Defence (RChBD) told journalists on Friday.
The ammunition was used in a September attack on one of the villages in the Aleppo province.

The public sphere is recently actively used to force Anti-Russian rhetoric in the context of the Syrian crisis. There are attempts to diminish Russia’s role and depict our country as the prime cause of all the troubles in Syria. It is speculated that Moscow counts on the military solution of the conflict. The aim of this campaign is simple – to conceal the true culprits of the failure of the CoH (cessation of hostilities) in Syria and disguise the true causes of the non-fulfillment of the Russia-US agreements.

The Russian Federation made a thorough fact-based comparative analysis of implementation of the Russia-US agreements, It includes all aspects such as compliance with and monitoring of CoH, granting of humanitarian access to besieged areas, joint fight against terrorism.

Russia guaranteed the implementation of the CoH by the Syrian government. The US on the other hand were not capable to insure the implementation of the CoH by the armed groups. From February to September the opposition groups that are supposed to be under the US control committed 2,031 violations of the CoH, which claimed lives of 3,532 military personnel and 12,800 civilians.
Furthermore, the US failed to fulfill their February promise to separate Al- Nusra Front from “moderate” opposition. Russia on the other hand since March has been prepared to transfer to Washington the maps showing the zones where according to our data the terrorists are holding territory.

In the list of groups that confirmed their commitment to the CoH presented by Washington 2 belong to ISIS and 8 to the Al-Nusra Front. The American list is discredited by the inclusion of cutthroats from Ahrar al-Sham and Nour al-Din al-Zenki. Besides the US probably didn’t receive any written guaranties to respect the CoH from the groups they allegedly control…>>>…

The fight for Aleppo is going to be a turning point in the Syrian war which could jumpstart the liberation of other Syrian cities, according to President Assad. Russian military correspondent, retired colonel Mikhail Khodarenok explains how the Russian military is going to use the experience of Palmyra’s liberation in the re-conquest of Aleppo.

In January, General Valery Gerasimov, current Chief of the General Staff of Russia’s Armed Forces revealed the plans of the Syrian Armed Forces to take the offensive along the entire frontline with the aerial support of the Russian military, Mikhail Khodarenok, military correspondent of Russia’s online newspaper Gazeta.ru writes in his article for the website.

Several months later, local fighting goes on in six Syrian regions. The most active operations are being carried out in Lattakia, Aleppo, Hama and Palmyra. In Damascus, the government forces continue to encircle the Eastern Ghouta district occupied by the militants. The clashes often come down to reciprocal skirmish from small arms and artillery strikes. Neither side to the conflict could boast any major military success. Apart from Aleppo, the fighting is done merely by reinforced squadrons and at times it looks quite strange, the expert says.

In his recent interview President Assad said that retaking the city of Aleppo from terrorists would jump start the liberation of other Syrian cities. It would be a springboard to move towards other cities and to liberate them from terrorists.

n order to evaluate the prospects of the Syrian army and its combatant value, Khodarenok reminds of last year’s liberation of Palmyra, which has become the major success of the government forces. The reviewing of this experience will provide rather a true-to-fact overview of what is going on in Syria.

However, Tsargrad has managed to clarify just what countries Russia could return to in the near future.

This task is first and foremost one that faces our military departments and is not a question of merely increasing the number of our troops abroad but also, for example, providing for long-range aircraft flights, guaranteeing logistical support to the navy, and establishing effective intelligence gathering.

So foreign ministers from the 28 NATO member-nations met in Brussels for a two-day summit, while mighty military power Montenegro was inducted as a new member.

Global Robocop NATO predictably discussed Afghanistan (a war NATO ignominiously lost); Iraq (a war the Pentagon ignominiously lost); Libya (a nation NATO turned into a failed state devastated by militia hell); Syria (a nation NATO, via Turkey, would love to invade, and is already a militia hell).

Comparisons of the current NATO buildup to pre-WWII buildups, or to NATO when opposed to the Warsaw Pact, are amateurish. The THAAD and Patriot missiles are worthless – according to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) themselves; that’s why they tried to improve them with Iron Dome.

Meanwhile, those new NATO army “battalions” are inconsequential. The basic thrust behind the Pentagon’s moves under neocon Ash Carter continues to be to draw Russia ever further into Syria and Ukraine (as if Moscow actually was involved in, or wanted, a Ukrainian quagmire); trap Russia in proxy wars; and economically bleed Russia to death while crippling the bulk of oil and natural gas income to the Russian state.

Russia does not want – and does not need – war. Yet the “Russian aggression” narrative never stops. Thus it’s always enlightening to come back to this RAND corporation study, which examined what would happen if a war actually took place. RAND reached an “unambiguous” conclusion after a series of war games in 2015-2015; Russia could overrun NATO in a mere 60 hours – if not less – if it ever amounted to a hot war on European soil.

The Rand Corporation is essentially a CIA outpost – thus a propaganda machine. Yet it’s not propaganda to state the Baltic States and Ukraine would completely fall in less than three days before the Russian Army. However, the suggestion that additional NATO air power and heavily armored combat divisions would make a material difference is bogus.

Russia and Syria claimed surprise when the Kurdish defense forces withdrew from positions around Aleppo, shuttling in al Nusra forces who are now not only advised by Turkish military but actually include all Turkish units now operating inside Syria itself.

Based on what we now see from the Raqqah drive by the Kurds from the North, another phony attack on ISIS, and the new clear cooperative agreement between ISIS and al Nusra, we know this for sure.

The YPG Kurds, the American Special Forces, the Aleppo Kuridsh forces, are all coordinating with ISIS and al Nusra, with Turkey also, all as Dr. Barakat said, all theatre and nothing more.

Units of Kurdish militia have abandoned defenses in Aleppo’s Sheikh Maqsood and retreated, a spokesman for the Russian center for reconciliation of opposing sides in Syria said on Saturday.

Over the past 24 hours, terrorists delivered strikes from multiple rocket launchers, mortars and anti-aircraft guns on the residential areas of Handrat, Sheikh Maqsood, al-Muhafaza, al-Zahraa and al-Nayrab airport in the city of Aleppo.

Also, the residential localities of Kinsibba and Nahshebba in the Latakia region and Fua and Kafr Haya in the Idlib region came under shelling.

The meeting between American, Turkish, Israeli and SDF representatives, joined by military operational leaders of the Free Syrian Army, ISIS and al Nusra, outlined a staged “theatrical” chain of events intended to move ISIS ostensibly out of Northern Syria and replace them with a Turkish/Israeli consortium which has, in actuality, managed ISIS all along.

This schedule, we believe, was arranged for in Azaz, indicating full cooperation between the US, Turkey, Israel and terrorist forces in both Syria and Iraq, and that Kurdish forces are fully complicit.

Their technical and professional experience and military assistance have identified serious deficiencies and incorrect techniques habits by the Syrian Army in the use and maintenance of the armaments.
Because it is from a proper use, storage and maintenance of the weapons, vehicles and ammunition that often depend the fate of the battles.
By correcting the faults and updating the Syrian military operators it was possible to give them better skills and confidence in operations on more fronts and against an enemy well armed with the most sophisticated weaponry, coming from the Western powers…via Ottoman-Gulf regimes…

Few would mention the quiet work behind the scenes that was performed by a large group of highly dedicated professionals who helped transform the Syrian military that was on the brink of defeat, into a force that could once again begin liberating Syria’s territory.
Without denying the importance of the air campaign, the air strikes alone would not have turned the tide of the war.
