State Senator from Virginia Richard Black said that the establishment of US military base in Syria, a “sovereign country that has never taken any offensive action towards” America, is an “obvious violation of international law.”

The US base in Syria’s At Tanf area is a clear violation of international law, Virginia State Senator Richard Black told Sputnik.

“We’ve even set up a base at Al Tanf in the southern part, it’s an American base within the country of Syria,” Black said.
“You can’t get a more obvious violation of international law than to actually move in and set up a military base in a sovereign country that has never taken any offensive action towards our country.”

“US President Donald Trump”, Black added, “has unfortunately given authority to people “who are not well-intentioned and they are using that military authority in Syria.”
The senator also noted that Russia, Syria, and its allies are “definitely on the move. ”

“There’s no doubt that the terrorists are being thrown back on every front and I think that’s very encouraging,” he stated.

“Right now I would say if you could hold an election in Syria… President Assad would probably be reelected with 90% of the vote and that’s including the terrorist occupied areas”, Senator Black added………………………..

On the advance of ISIS militants from Mosul toward Palmyra, Virginia Senator Richard Black (R) expressed doubt that the US-led coalition could have overlooked such a regrouping, pointing to possible interests of the US and regional players.

Given that the territory between areas occupied by Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) and Palmyra is a “very barren” rocky desert, “it is unconceivable that the American-led collation could not have seen this massive army moving towards Palmyra,” Senator Black said.

“I was surprised that ISIS was able to attack Palmyra. It’s important to recognize that the distance from ISIS-held territory [to] Palmyra is approximately 100 miles,” added the senator, who has repeatedly voiced support for Syrian President Bashar Assad in battling the jihadists.

President Bashar al-Assad received on Thursday US Senator Richard Black and discussed with him the situation in Syria and the foreign-backed terrorism war waged against it.
The President highlighted during the discussion that the terrorist attacks which have hit several areas in the world prove that terrorism knows no borders.
Fighting terrorism, he stressed, demands a joint international effort that is not limited to the military level only but goes beyond to include fighting the extremist Wahhabi thinking underpinning terrorism, said President al-Assad.

US senator Richard Black held a press conference on Thursday at Four Seasons in Damascus, talking about his visit to Syria and saying “I had the honor to meet President Bashar al-Assad and his wife,” adding “the impression was excellent.”

The US Senator noted that he will convey the reality of what is happening in Syria which refutes the false news and allegations circulated through media outlets about the events in the country.

In a relevant context, Senator Black visited some injured soldiers at Ahmad Hamish Hospital in Damascus and inspected the services provided to its departments and the artificial limbs factory.

Mr. Black expressed deep concern over the economic blockade imposed by the US on Syria which restrained the latter’s ability to import and manufacture artificial limbs and provide necessary medical care to the injured, describing such act as a crime against humanity.

As the Syrian civil war continues to rage and Islamic State maintains its foothold in the region, Virginia state Senator Richard Black told RT that “if the US stopped training jihadists and arming jihadists, the war will end.”

In a lengthy interview, the Republican state senator connected the crisis in Syria to the actions of countries such as Saudi Arabia and Turkey, who he said have armed extremists like Islamic State militants that are fighting against the Syrian government. He also blamed US meddling in the Middle East for the rise of terror groups like Islamic State (IS, also known as ISIS/ISIL).

~ “I am really, really pleased that the Russians are putting some people in there who are genuinely going to fight, because I am not entirely certain which side the United States is on. I think sometimes we play one side, sometimes the other”, Senator Richard Black said. ~

Black said that if Russia proceeds to use military force, he doesn’t believe it will “allow Raqqah to function.” He said he would advise Putin to coordinate with the Kurds and any anti-IS Sunni tribes to take down the city, but not before giving people a certain amount of time to leave.

~ “Flatten that city. Turn it into dust. Because that is the capital of ISIS – the most evil, the most demonic force on the face of the planet. We need to take it down and we need to take out their capital”. ~

Black drew some heat in April 2014 for sending an official letter to Syrian President Bashar Assad thanking “the Syrian Arab Army for its heroic rescue of Christians in the Qalamoun Mountain Range”.
