The US State Department has admitted that some of the so-called moderate rebels in Syria have been successfully recruited by the al-Nusra Front, an Al-Qaeda affiliate, which is being targeted by Russia’s air campaign in Syria.

The information came from US Assistant Secretary for Near Eastern Affairs Anne Patterson, giving testimony in front of lawmakers.

“The Nusra Front, which is an al-Qaeda affiliate, has absorbed a number of what we would previously call the moderate opposition,” Patterson told the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

However, the revelations had very little impact on US President Barack Obama’s plans in Syria, as Washington continues to criticize the Russian air strikes and is planning to send around 50 special operatives to Syria to train and assist the “moderate rebels”.

The move to send American military advisors to Syria completely contradicts what the US President Barack Obama promised just over two years ago: “I will not put American boots on the ground in Syria,” he said during a televised national address on September 10, 2013.

Some critics have spoken out, labeling the US move as unlawful.

“There is not legal authorization for troops to go into Syria without permission. This is illegal. Congress has not been consulted or asked and they have not approved it. So the president is acting out of bounds,” retired US Air Force lieutenant Karen Kwiatkowski told RT.

“Clearly, [the US] strategy of working with what we considered to be moderate rebels was wrong. And it is going to be put to an end I think. People in Washington have an imagination about how the mIddle East works that is really not related to reality at all,” Kwiatkowski added.

With the announcement of US special forces joining Western-backed militants on the ground in Syria, many still appear confused as to exactly what the implications of this move are.

As if to assure the public that indeed, the move is to use the so-called Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL) as a pretext to invade and occupy Syrian territory, the Washington Post has published an article explaining the move in detail titled, “Obama has strategy for Syria, but it faces major obstacles.”

Of course, it should be noted that Turkey itself has been a NATO member since the 1950’s, with a US airbase located on Turkish territory at Incirlik for nearly as long. Since the war started in Syria in 2011, the US has admittedly operated along the Turkish-Syrian border. The New York Times and the Washington Post itself has reported on numerous occasions regarding the US Central Intelligence Agency steering weapons to militant groups across this very border.

There are also multi-billion dollar refugee camps built in a joint effort between Western governments and nongovernmental organizations and the Turkish government itself along the border, as well as US-run training camps for “moderate rebels.”

The question becomes then, if ISIS is receiving the summation of its “foreign fighters, money, and materiael” from Turkey, and the US is operating all along the Turkish border, why isn’t it being interdicted before it reaches Syria?

Hezbollah captures Israeli-made weapons from mercenary-terrorists in al-Zabadani

A large cache of Israeli-made weapons was seized in Zabadani region during the mop-up operations by the Lebanese Hezbollah Resistance Movement.

After 10 days of the Syrian army and Hezbollah troops’ massive operations to cleanse different districts in Southwestern Zabadani region, efforts still continue to discover the terrorists’ linking tunnels and hideouts.

Only on Monday morning, Hezbollah forces could purge the terrorists from nearly 15 residential blocks in the Eastern part of al-Jasr mosque.

Also they arrested three members of Ahrar al-Sham terrorist group during their house to house searching in Zabadani.

Hezbollah forces also discovered and seized a large cache of Israeli-made weapons and military equipment in areas near al-Rahmah mosque in the Central parts of Zabadani.

“Israeli Air Force planes carried out airstrikes at an artillery position belonging to the Syrian Army,” the source said.

“The artillery was used by the army to repel attacks from militants in the eastern part of Zabadani.”

The source added that terrorists attacked Syrian army positions on the east side of Zabadani in the early hours of Thursday.

The Syrian military, supported by the artillery shelling, managed to repel the attack after a three-hour battle.

Some 26 Takfiri terrorists were killed in Syrian military operations in Hama province.

85% OF ZABADANI HAS BEEN FREED

An RT crew filming on location in western Syria found itself in the midst of a live firefight as government forces and their allies were driving rebels out of the city of Zabadani.

RT correspondent Lizzie Phelan and her crew came under heavy fire as they were attempting to approach the front dividing the city of Zabadani, a long time rebel stronghold close to capital city of Damascus.

The crew heard a heavy artillery exchange between Syrian government forces and the rebels as they entered the city, and later found themselves caught in the midst of ongoing skirmishes as they were trying to get closer to the frontline.

At 3 A.M. (Damascus Time) on Tuesday morning, the Syrian Arab Air Force (SAAF) launched a multitude of airstrikes over the strategic city of Jisr Al-Shughour in preparation for a large-scale assault to break the one month long siege of the National Hospital, where over 250 Syrian Arab Army soldiers, doctors, and nurses are currently protecting their encircled positions.

The SAAF’s airstrikes rained a number of bombs over the Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra” and their allies from “Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham” and “Ajnad Al-Sham” for two hours before the Syrian Arab Army’s 87th Brigade of the 11th Tank Division, Tiger Forces, and the National Defense Forces (NDF) fired a barrage of mortar shells and rockets towards the Sugar Factory that is situated 1.5km from Jisr Al-Shughour.
