As the war on Syria enters its seventh year, the 6th of May brings to mind stories of heroism, glory, commitment and all sacrifices that the Syrians have made to defend the independence of their homeland and its territorial integrity over the years.

Nowadays, the Martyrs’ Day, which annually marked on May 6th to commemorate the Syrian and Lebanese nationalists executed by the Ottomans in Beirut and Damascus for resisting the occupation in 1916, is an opportunity to honor and pay tribute to all Syrian mothers and their sons for their sacrifices to confront the terrorist war waged on their country since 2011.

Sou’ad Jneidi, mother of martyrs Mayyas and Ali Ahmad, recalled the last moments with her son before his martyrdom, adding that she is proud of her two sons who irrigated with their blood the soil of Aleppo for the sake of their country.

More than a century has passed since the execution of Syrian nationalists and intellectuals at al-Marjeh Square in Damascus by the Ottoman’s ruler Jamal Basha, who was known as al-Saffah (the blood shedder), on May 6th, 1916.

The Martyrs’ Day occasion holds very special significance for the Syrian people who stress their determination to make sacrifices and offer more martyrs in order to defending their homeland’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

On this day, the Syrian people salute those who sacrificed their souls for the sake of protecting their homeland and the Syrian army soldiers who are fighting in the battlefields.

Neither the Ottoman ruler Jamal Basha nor the Turkish-backed terrorist organizations’ heinous crimes will undermine the Syrians’ willingness to defeat terrorism, the last of which targeting Aleppo city with hundreds of rocket and mortar shells over the past ten days which caused the martyrdom and the injury of hundreds.

“When a fighter believes in his cause and his victory, he will give us morale when he achieved victory in any battle, even if it’s a small battle, and when we believe in this fighter, we give him morale as a society, as a people, and as an incubator when he loses a battle”, His Excellency said.

“We shouldn’t live in a state of contradiction. In wars, there are wins and losses, and there are people who are now killing and crushing many terrorists on the confrontation lines, and these people wouldn’t have done that if they had been afraid. They are fighting and advancing, and some of them are fighting and emerging victorious, and others are fighting and retreating when circumstances necessitate that,” the President said.

“Through you, we salute and express love, respect, and admiration to all those like you, and we say that our faith in you is great. We say to all fighters and heroes that our love for you knows no bounds,” President al-Assad said.

On the occasion of Martyrs’ Day, the state employees get a day off on Wednesday May 6th. the cabinet announced.

More than 100 years ago, the Syrians revolted against the tyranny of 400 years of Ottoman occupation, with the occupiers using all forms of crimes to terror and deter the Syrians from fulfilling their goals in freedom and independence.

Martyrs’ Day is a Syrian and Lebanese national holiday commemorates the Syrian and Lebanese nationalists executed in Damascus and Beirut on May 6, 1916 by the fourth army commander of the Ottoman occupation Jamal Pasha, also known as ‘Al Jazzar’ or ‘The Butcher’.

At the same time, Units of the Army and the Syrian armed forces continued to tighten the noose around the foreign-backed Takfiri organizations across the country, killing scores of their members and destroying their dens and hideouts.
