There’s a crusade against “fake news”! So you’re saying that a bunch of Macedonian kids screwed millions of Americans over and got Trump elected? A bunch of Macedonian kids versus the enormous mainstream media machine – those six giants that control 90 percent of American media –almost 100 percent of them behind Hillary Clinton. Oh no, you don’t make up news intentionally, CNN didn’t interview their Super-Hillary-Fan cameraman intentionally and Fox’s fake “former CIA operative” was just an honest mistake, fine. But misleading, misinforming, pulling out of context and propagating war – that’s your intention for sure: Saddam’s weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. American mainstream media, Bravo! You did brilliant job convincing American to go there, to kill and to die under false pretext. But lessons aren’t learnt – Yugoslavia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, ISIS, terrorists – or what do you call them – “moderate rebels”? But what you do is way more dangerous, your “real news” start wars, kill and displace millions and destroy entire regions. So f*ck fake news – most can see that coming… it’s the real news that needs a check.

The resolution adopted by the European Parliament against Russia’s media outlets is the first step towards imposing censorship against all media sources which express different views from those promoted by the EU leadership, Italian journalist Giulietto Chiesa warns.

The European Parliament’s decision to crack down on Russia’s news websites, most notably Sputnik and RT, and considering them alongside terrorist groups like Daesh and Al-Qaeda, has stirred a heated debate among international media pundits and independent observers.

“I write for Sputnik and cooperate with different Russian television broadcasters. So what will they do to me now?” Giulietto Chiesa, an Italian journalist and Director of PandoraTV.it, asks rhetorically.

“This greatly worries me, as we had a very negative experience of group stigmatizing here in Serbia, when NATO bombed the building of RTS channel in 1999, justifying that as ‘the struggle against the Milosevic propaganda machine.’ The airstrikes killed 16 of our colleagues,” the journalist emphasized.

The resolution adopted by the European Parliament that compared Russian media to Daesh propaganda, is one of the harshest attacks on journalism, Director of the Radio Belgrade (Radio Beograda) Milivoje Mihajlovic told Sputnik on Thursday.
“I am particularly surprised by the comparison of the media with terrorist organizations. It’s a classic self-inflicted mistake of the European Parliament, and it will be remembered as one of the harshest attacks on the profession of journalist,” Mihajlovic said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin commented on the matter by pointing out that the document indicates a degradation of democracy in the West. Praising Sputnik and RT for their work, the president expressed hope that real media restrictions would not follow.

The EU resolution was adopted in Strasbourg with 304 MEPs supporting it, 179 voting against and 208 abstaining. ~ It was drawn up by a Polish member of the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group, Anna Fotyga, and is based on a report dubbed ‘EU strategic communication to counteract propaganda against it by third parties’. ~ The report says that Russian media attempts to ‘distort the truth, provoke doubt, divide the EU and its North American partners, paralyze the decision-making process, discredit the EU institutions and incite fear and uncertainty among EU citizens.’ ~ The document singles out RT, Sputnik news agency, the Rossotrudnichestvo federal agency and the Russkiy Mir (Russian World) fund as being particularly devious tools of propaganda.

MEPs in Strasbourg have voted on a non-legislative resolution which calls for the EU to “respond to information warfare by Russia.” RT and Sputnik news agency are alleged to be among the most dangerous “tools” of “hostile propaganda.”

The EU Parliament’s resolution demonstrates “political degradation” in regard to the “idea of democracy” in the West, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday, commenting on the vote.

Putin pointed out that while “everyone tries to lecture” Russia on democracy, European lawmakers themselves resort to a policy of restrictions, “which is not the best way” to deal with any issues.

“The best approach is an open discussion, in which bright and solid arguments to support one’s point of view should be presented,” Putin said.

Adding that he hopes the Western move to “counter Russian propaganda” won’t lead to serious restrictions, the president congratulated RT and Sputnik journalists on their work.

During U.S. State Department briefing RT’s reporter Gayane Chichakyan asked spokesman John Kirby for specific information concerning allegations that Russia is targeting hospitals in Syria. The response was a reiteration of those allegations and a refusal to treat RT in the same way as other media outlets. U.S. State Department spokesman John Kirby, explicitly says RT will not be treated on a par with other news outlets. The “Russia Today” broadcaster’s accounts have been blocked in the United Kingdom, Editor-in-Chief Margarita Simonyan said Monday, suggesting that the move stifles free speech. “Our accounts in the UK have been closed. All Accounts. ‘The decision is not subject to revision’.

Long live freedom of speech!” Simonyan said in a Twitter post.

Following Editor-in-Chief Margarita Simonyan’s statement on Twitter earlier in the day, RT UK said it had been informed by the National Westminster Bank that it “will no longer provide” banking arrangements with the broadcaster.
