Former US congressional staffer Rodney Martin says the United States is sending foreign mercenaries to Syria to topple the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
He made the comments after The Washington Post reported the Pentagon is preparing to send its first batch of trained militants into Syria as a ground force against the ISIL terrorist group in the next several weeks.
“What we’re seeing is the United States sending in mercenaries that they have trained armed, equipped, and financed to destabilize… the democratically-elected government of President Bashar al-Assad,” Martin said.
U.S. military official said to The Washington Post: “We think the program will be successful in the long run because we give them a qualitative advantage. That’s the draw of the program — not quantity, but quality”.
Analysts say many of the US-trained ‘militants’ could eventually find themselves on the side of the Daesh-ISIL Takfiris against a common enemy on the ground —the Syrian government forces.
