(SouthFront) ~ At least 28 people have been killed and 61 injured in a car explosion in the center of Ankara. The scene of the explosion took place at 16:30 GMT and is located in close proximity to Turkey’s parliament, the Presidency of the General Staff, and Army, Air Force, Navy and Coast Guard commands. The attack was originally targeting military buses at traffic lights.

There isn’t information about the organizers of the attack but it comes in a serious time for the country since Turkey has been conducting massive operations against the Kurds and the Assad government forces in Northern Syria.

On Feb.17, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Yalcin Akdogan said Turkey wants to establish a secure zone 10km within Syria which would include the town of Azaz. Turkey has been attempting to implement a kind of this plan for a long time.

Erdogan’s regime already consternated a significant military force, the 2nd Army, at the Syrian border.

The Russian Aerospace Forces commander says the video footage of Russian bomber’s crash was shot from the territory controlled by terrorists from North Caucasus and former Soviet republics.

The commander-in-chief of the Russian Aerospace Forces, Viktor Bondarev, said said the Turkish fighters that attacked the Su-24M were waiting for the Russian bomber in the air. Besides, according to Russian military data, the bomber was in the Turkish Air Force’s radar stations coverage area for over 30 minutes.

Bondarev also noted that the video footage of Russian bomber’s crash was shot from the territory controlled by terrorists from North Caucasus and former Soviet republics. He also noted that the person shooting the video knew the time and place of the attack in advance.

According to him, the Turkish media’s readiness to cover the incident was amazingly surprising. The general recalled that the Russian jet was hit at 10:24 on November 25. A private Turkish TV company posted the video 90 minutes later.

The downing of a Russian warplane in Syria by Turkey appears to be a pre-planned provocation, the Russian Foreign Minister said.

“We have serious doubts that this act was unintentional. It looks very much like a preplanned provocation,” Lavrov said, citing Turkey’s failure to maintain proper communication with Russia, the abundance of footage of the incident and other evidence.

Lavrov added that many Russian partners called the incident “an obvious ambush.”

The Russian FM said the region where the incident happened is home to hundreds of terrorist gangs al-Qaeda affiliated, with known terrorist groups and elements of their infrastructure such as weapons depots and command points there, he said.

He added the downing of the Russian warplane occurred shortly after a series of airstrikes on terrorist oil convoys and facilities by the Russian Air Force. The incident “sheds new light” on the issue, according to the Russian foreign minister.

“Very strange statements were voiced after a NATO meeting called by the Turks, which didn’t express any regret or condolences and in effect were aimed at covering up what the Turkish Air Force did yesterday,” Lavrov said. “A similar reaction came from the European Union.”

“Turkey backstabbed Russia by downing the Russian warplane and acted as accomplices of the terrorists”, President Vladimir Putin said.

“This incident stands out against the usual fight against terrorism. Our troops are fighting heroically against terrorists, risking their lives. But the loss we suffered today came from a stab in the back delivered by accomplices of the terrorists”, Putin said.

Putin said the plane was hit by a Turkish warplane as it was traveling at an altitude of 6000 meters about a kilometer from the Turkish border. It was hit by an air-to-air missile launched by a Turkish F-16 jet. The crash site is four kilometers from the border. The plane posed no threat to Turkish national security, he stressed.

Putin said the plane was targeting terrorist targets in the Latakia province of Syria, many of whom came from Russia.

Russia’s defence ministry confirmed that one Russian fighter jet has been downed in Syria, apparently after coming under fire from the ground.

Russian defense ministry said also that the culling of their airplane will be deemed a clear act of aggression by a NATO-member country against Russia.

Russia’s defence ministry said Russia could prove the fighter jet was over Syria for the duration of its flight, as Interfax news agency reported.

This clear provocation and Turkish act of war towards Russia, comes at a time of high tension, while Russia is strongly operating on Syrian soil, alongside and in collaboration with the Syrian armed forces, to fight the jihadist terrorist gangs, whereas nations such as France, England, and the US-led coalition are operating illegally [without permission and coordination with the sovereign Syrian Arab Republic], bombing Syrian civilian facilities [power stations, water mains and services for the population] and threatening a confrontation with Russia, which would have disastrous and devastating consequences.

We now await the Russian answer. Putin has shown, up to now, not to be a fool and to cleverly knowhow to circumvent the NATO military provocations, giving answers well balanced, respecting the international law, but without suffering humiliation or changes to the program of the war on terrorism that currently is producing excellent results, not only for Syria and Syrians, but to the entire free world.

NATO’s over-the-top reaction to a minor violation by a Russian aircraft of Turkey’s air space underscores the key point about the Russian military deployment.

The West has lost control of the skies of Syria.

The combined total of ten SU-30s and SU-34s provides the Russians with a formidable air defence group. Whilst the SU-34 is not as potent a fighter as the super manoeuvrable SU-30, it is more than a match for the F16s that make up the bulk of the Turkish air force, and is a match for the F15s and F16s of the Israeli air force.

This is important because, as the incident on the Turkish border shows, the Russian strike group is carrying out air strikes in areas close to the Turkish and Israeli borders where, because of fears of intervention by the Turkish and Israeli air forces, the Syrian air force had previously not dared to go.

This incluces strikes on Raqqa – the Islamic State’s de facto capital – and Idlib, both within easy distance of the Turkish border.
