Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Bashar al-Jaafari said that Syria rejects the Canadian draft resolution on the situation in Aleppo which was submitted to the United Nations General Assembly, calling on the Assembly’s presidency to obtain the opinion of Assembly’s legal counselor.

During a UN General Assembly’s session for voting on the aforementioned Canadian draft resolution which calls for the cessation of combat activities in Aleppo without removing terrorists from it, al-Jaafari said that the practices of Canada’s delegation and those who joined it highlight the huge gap between theory and practice with regard to states’ sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.

“It seems that the US administration doesn’t learn from its mistakes, and today it insists on providing armed terrorist groups with all sorts of weapons including anti-air missiles, then they talk about security of civilian airplanes!” Syria’s Representative added.

“Before calling for holding this meeting and submitting the draft resolution, the Canadian delegation and its partners should have listened to the harrowing tales accounts about the crimes of terrorist organizations that were told by tens of thousands of our people who were saved by the Syrian Army and its allies in Aleppo city during the past few days, ” al-Jaafari said, adding that they also should have acknowledged the achievement made by the Syrian Army and its allies who liberated more than 100,000 Syrian citizens from the clutches of Jabhat al-Nusra and provided them with food, medicine, and shelter…>>>…

Moscow has blasted as “outrageous twisting of the facts” a statement by EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini, who said the EU was the only party providing aid to Syria.

“It’s outrageous twisting of facts which ignores what Russia has been doing for a long time”, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said.

The Russian Foreign Ministry also officially responded to Mogherini’s statement “with surprise,”and said that Russia, “unlike other international players, is actively supplying thousands of tons of humanitarian aid to various regions in Syria, including the liberated areas in eastern Aleppo, at the risk of Russian military lives.”

“If the high representative [Mogherini] means providing assistance to terrorists and extremists, then we don’t participate in this, indeed”, the statement added….

The Russian official’s statement comes after the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini said in Berlin on Wednesday, that the EU “are the ones – the ones, not among the ones – that are providing humanitarian aid, in Syria and around. I don’t see many others doing as much as we are”… … …

Calls to stop liberation of East-Aleppo resemble attempts to save their puppets. Russia reiterates call on Western countries to join real efforts to defeat terrrosts in Syria, according to official statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Russia and China have vetoed a UN Security Council resolution on immediate seven-day ceasefire in the Syrian city of Aleppo, which was submitted by Egypt, New Zealand and Spain. Russian Foreign Minister earlier described the draft resolution as “counterproductive”.
Before the vote, Russia’s UN envoy said that the country would vote against the document, informing UNSC members of Moscow’s decision.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the resolution ran counter to a solution that the US and Russia are trying to agree on for Aleppo.
“Taking into consideration the outcome of the previous pauses [in the conflict], there is absolutely no doubt that the 10-day ceasefire, which backers of the draft resolution generously want to provide the militants with, would surely be used for regrouping and rearming the extremists and would slow down the liberation of eastern Aleppo from them,” Lavrov said.

11 Security Council members supported the resolution, while Russia, China and Venezuela voted against it. Angola abstained. Russia and China have the power of veto in the UNSC…>>>…

Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN Bashar al-Jaafari criticized the UN meetings on the humanitarian situation in Syria as being politicized and not aimed at helping the Syrian people.

During a session to listen to the report of the UN Undersecretary-General on the humanitarian situation in Syria on Tuesday, al-Jaafari said the repeated official and non-official meetings and urgent updates held recently on almost a weekly basis, with or without brokers and in many times of no use, have been pointless as they were not aimed at helping the Syrian people to get out of the crisis in an objective way and in compliance with the rules of the international law and the resolution no. 46/182 on providing emergency humanitarian assistance.

It is not that Syria doesn’t want such meetings to take place, but rather, “we want the objective of these meetings to be providing real help in solving the crisis in Syria in an honest and effective way away from any politicization that has become flagrant,” said al-Jaafari.

He added that “such meetings should not be used by governments of states that are responsible for the shedding of the Syrians’ blood and the sweeping cross-border terrorism as a means to demonize the Syrian government and exploit the humanitarian situation to exert pressure on it”.

The UN Security Council on Friday unanimously adopted resolution No. 2268 on cessation of combat activities in Syria.

The council reiterated commitment to Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, voicing support to settle the crisis in Syria through the UN, based on Geneva Statement and Vienna declarations.

Members of the Council called on UN Secretary General and his Special Envoy for Syria to resume the Syrian-Syrian dialogue as soon as possible.

In a statement after the Council adopted the resolution, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov stressed the need to stop the support provided for terrorist organizations by foreign sides because that hinders the political solution for the crisis in Syria.

France, the United States and Britain have rejected the text of a Russian-drafted UN resolution aimed at putting an end to Turkey’s military actions and provocations in Syria.

French Ambassador to the UN Francois Delattre claimed Moscow’s backing of Syrian forces had led to a dangerous escalation in the war.

Meanwhile, US Ambassador to the UN Samantha Power said the draft would distract the world, adding Moscow should instead focus on implementing a UN resolution passed in December that endorsed an international road map for a Syria peace process.

Turkey has called for a joint ground operation in Syria, insisting it is the only way to stop the country’s five-year war.

This as the country stands accused of fuelling the war by supporting terrorist groups like Daesh and Nusra Front.

The UN demanded that Israel comply with the international legitimacy’s resolutions on the occupied Syrian Golan, particularly the Security Council resolution no. 497 of 1981 that declared Israel’s decision to impose its laws and jurisdiction on the Golan as “null and void and without international legal effect”.

The UN’s demand came during the General Assembly’s seventieth session held Tuesday at which the Fourth Committee (Special Political and Decolonization) approved a draft resolution on “The occupied Syrian Golan”.

Following the adoption of the resolution, Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN Bashar al-Jaafari said in a statement that Syria maintains its right to restore the occupied Golan fully and with all legitimate means enshrined in the UN Charter and the international law.

He added that the UN member states’ support for the resolution sent a clear message to Israel that it is merely no more than an occupying authority and that its occupation and human rights violations are unacceptable and must end immediately.
