Syria intercepts Israeli regime’s missile attack on army position

Syrian army has intercepted missiles Israeli regime’s fighter jets fired towards a military position near the capital, Damascus.

In a statement carried by state media on Wednesday, the army said the Israeli aircraft used Lebanese airspace for the missile strikes.

Loud blasts were heard in Damascus at around 3:30 a.m. local time.

“Our air defense systems blocked them and destroyed most of them,” said the statement.

“The general command of the armed forces holds Israel fully responsible for the dangerous consequences for its repeated, aggressive and uncalculated adventures,” it added.

The new Israeli act of aggression was first reported by state media, which said the missiles had been aimed at a scientific research center in Jamraya village.

Over the past few years, Israel has frequently attacked military targets in Syria in what is considered as an attempt to prop up terror outfits that have been suffering heavy defeats against Syrian government forces.

Israel has also been providing weapons to anti-Damascus militants as well as medical treatment to the Takfiri elements wounded in Syria.

Netanyahu visits Golan Heights

The latest attack on Syria came shortly after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu paid a rare visit to the occupied part of Syria’s Golan Heights and peered across the border.

Netanyahu said the regime was ready for “any scenario and I wouldn’t suggest to anyone that they test us.”

The warning came one week after the Israeli minister of military affairs stressed that a new war with Lebanon would also likely involve Syria.

“Israel’s northern front extends to Syria; it is not just Lebanon. I am not sure that the Syrian government can resist Hezbollah’s attempts to drag them into a war with Israel,” Avigdor Liberman said.

Israel launched two wars on Lebanon in 2000 and 2006, in both cases the Hezbollah resistance movement inflicted heavy losses on the regime’s military.

The regime seized the Golan Heights from Syria after the 1967 Six-Day War and later occupied it in a move that has never been recognized by the international community.

It has built tens of illegal settlements in the area ever since and has used the region to carry out a number of military operations against the Syrian government.

Foreign Ministry: “Israeli attacks on Syria aim at supporting terrorists and prolonging the crisis”

The repeated Israeli attacks on Syria are a continuation of Israel’s aggressive approach represented by supporting terrorist groups to prolong the crisis in Syria and to raise the morale of the terrorists, the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry said.

In a letter sent to the UN Secretary General and Security Council President, the Ministry said that on 3:42 am on Wednesday in 7/2/2018, the Israeli occupation attacked once again the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic, as Israeli aircrafts fired missiles from the Lebanese airspace on an area in Damascus Countryside province.

The Ministry went on to say that the attack coincided with the attacks of armed terrorist organizations and the launching of more than 1,000 rockets and mortar rounds during the past few days on neighborhoods, suburbs, diplomatic missions, service facilities, and churches in Damascus and other cities, where dozens of civilians were killed and hundreds others were wounded, most of them women and children.

The Ministry added that the coinciding of Israeli and terrorist attacks constitutes further proof of the coordination, partnership, and alliance between Israel and the terrorist organizations.

“The Israeli occupation authorities’ practice of state terrorism and its continuous coordination with the terrorist organizations, especially Jabhat al-Nusra and the terrorist groups associated with it, affirms unequivocally that Israel is an entity that renounces international legitimacy and poses a threat to international peace and security, and is no less dangerous than the threat posed by al-Nusra and Daesh (ISIS),” the letter said.

The Ministry added that the persistence of the Israeli occupation authorities in their flagrant violations of UNSC and international resolutions requires putting an end to the unlimited and persistent support and protection provided by the US administration to it, which enables Israel to continue practicing state terrorism and threatening peace and security in the region and the world.

The Ministry went on to stress that the Syrian Arab Republic affirms that the repeated Israeli attacks on its territory have not and will never succeed in protecting the terrorist organizations which are Israel’s agents, as they will not distract the Syrian Arab Army from continuing the fight against terrorism throughout the country.

“The government of the Syrian Arab Republic reiterates its warning to Israel on the serious repercussions of its attacks on Syria, its continued support for armed terrorist organizations, and its continued occupation of the Arab territories, including the Occupied Syrian Golan, and it holds Israel fully responsible for that,” the letters said.

The Ministry concluded by calling on the UNSC to condemn these Israeli attacks and to take firm and immediate measures to curb these attacks, to hold Israel accountable, and to ensure that it does not get away with its crimes.
