HOMS – The Vatican’s Agenzia Fides news agency said that around 800 civilians in Homs issued an appeal asking the help of the UN, Red Cross and Red Crescent to help them leave the city, as they are prevented from doing so by a terrorist group led by a man called Abu Maan.
The agency said that these trapped people, most of them women, elderly, youth, children and disabled people, are currently in the areas of al-Warsheh, al-Salibieh, Bustan al-Diwan, al-Hamidiyeh, and Wadi al-Sayeh, and that they’re facing real danger.
The agency reported that the Syrian authorities are prepared to help release the citizens from their predicament, but the terrorists led by Abu Maan refuse to cooperate.
Also, Agenzia Fides quoted eyewitnesses as saying that an armed terrorist group has occupied the Greek-Catholic church of St. Elias in al-Qusayr in Homs countryside and converted it to a their base after storming the church last Thursday, forcing the doors, desecrating the church and attacked clergymen.
The local church denounced this behavior as “unacceptable and disrespectful toward a sacred place,” while the members of the hierarchy of the diocese of Homs called for preventing the desecration of temples and sacred places of all communities.
