The Russian General Staff has declared the liberation of Syria from Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS), stating that all territories previously under terrorist control were liberated in the final push by the Syrian Army.

“All terrorist units of ISIS on Syrian soil have been destroyed, and the territory is liberated,” Armed Forces Chief of Staff General Valery Gerasimov said.

“Therefore, as of today, there’s no territory controlled by ISIS in Syria,” he added. Gerasimov made the announcement during an annual briefing for foreign military attachés.

“Naturally, there might be some spots of resistance, but the military work has been largely completed in the area and at the time. Completed with a full victory, I repeat, with a victory and defeat of the terrorists,” Russian leader said… … …

Russia affirmed that the terrorists’ provocations and the shelling of the Russian chancery in Damascus  will not affect Russia’s resolve to continue cooperation with partners to eliminate terror hubs in Syria, to contribute to restoration of peace and security in the country, strengthening of its sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.

“A shell fired by terrorist groups hit the outer fence of dwelling compound at the Russian embassy, causing damage to the building’s wall, electricity lines and the water supplies system,” said the Russian Foreign Ministry, adding that no one was hurt.

The ministry strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack, adding that Moscow has repeatedly drawn attention of the international community to continuing shelling of the Syrian capital at the hands of terrorist groups which oppose the restoration of peace to the Syrian territory… … …

Branches of the National Union of Syrian Students in several Arab and foreign countries staged on Sunday events outside the Russian embassies and consulates expressing appreciation for Russia’s support to Syria in its war against terrorism.

Held as part of a series of similar events carried out in cooperation with the Syrian embassies and the Syrian communities in a number of countries across the world, the stands aim at showing thanks and gratitude to Russia for its firm position in support of Syria and its direct involvement in the fight against terrorism in the country.

Rallies supporting Russia’s operation in Syria have been held Sunday in European and Middle Eastern states, including Berlin, Lebanon, Hungary and Serbia.

On September 30, the Russian Air Force, acting upon a Syrian request, started air strikes against terrorist positions in the Syrian territory, destroying dozens of field camps, ammunition depots and command centers for the terrorist organizations.

According with REUTERS statements, the U.S. Army Colonel Steve Warren said that ‘moderate terrorists’ killing Syrian people are paid hundreds of extra-dollars each per month [in addition to those taken by al Saud-Qatar-Turkey], depending on their skills, performance and leadership position.

According to the Pentagon, Syrian “rebels” being trained and “vetted” by the United States are receiving “compensation” to the tune of anywhere between $250 to $400 per month to act as America’s proxy forces in the Middle East. Reuters reports that the payment levels were confirmed by the Pentagon and also that the Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter and Navy Commander Elissa Smith both separately admitted the fact that these “new” terrorists are receiving a stipend.

The Russian embassy in the Syrian capital of Damascus was shelled on Tuesday, with Moscow stating that it considers the attack on its diplomatic mission an act of terror.

Two mortar rounds landed on the premises of the Russian Embassy in the afternoon, “one of them fell near the main entrance, the other hit an administrative building,” Asiya Turuchiyeva embassy’s spokeswoman, told RIA Novosti.
