Everyone has read about the illegal assault on fighters with the Popular Defense Forces who were targeted by American aircraft and artillery as they were lawfully moving north between the villages of Khushaam and Al-Taabiyya in northeast Dayr El-Zor. 

Some reports in the Western Media claim that over 100 “pro-Assad regime troops” were killed by the noble and democracy-loving yanks. 

That is not true.

The actual number of fighters killed in the convoy heading north is around 22, with civilians being the largest casualty. 

The civilians were accompanying the PDC, for safety’s sake, as they were heading back to their homes.

Russian military: U.S.-led coalition struck Syrian troops conducting operation against Daesh cells in Deir Ezzor province

Syrian government forces were conducting a military operation against ISIS cells in the area of al-Isba in the province of Deir Ezzor when they were struck by the US-led coalition’s aircraft on February 7, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement on February 8.

According to the statement, the ISIS recently increased activity in the area sparking response from the government forces.

“Shelling of the positions of Syrian pro-government forces has increased during the past days near the communities of Mazloum, At-Tabiyyah and Khsham in the Deir ez-Zor Governorate [Deir Ezzor province], to where the civilian population is returning. Radio interception revealed that the Syrian troops were shelled by militants from an ISIS sleeper cell that had activated in the area,” the ministry said.

A local militia was conducting reconnaissance actions in the area to detect and eliminate the ISIS cell when it was surprisingly shelled by mortars, rocket launched and then the US-led coalition’s attack helicopters. 25 militiamen were injured as a result of the attack.

Why the U.S. should end its manufactured war on Syria, and leave

The international civil society has on many occasions made it absolutely clear that the United States and its occupying troops don’t belong in Syria. They should end their manufactured war and leave.

At its simplest, there are many reasons for this:
– As the wars on Afghanistan and Iraq have demonstrated, the civilian death toll from US military aggression has been high. This is no way to pay tribute to those killed by America’s terror proxies ISIL and Al-Qaeda.
– In Syria, except for America’s favourite terrorists, no one supports Washington’s so-called ‘humanitarian intervention’, much less its bogus war on ISIL and Al-Qaeda.
– At the United Nations, there is no consensus that would permit America’s intervention or occupation of the Arab country. The presence of US occupying troops to effect regime change in Damascus risks broadening the conflict into another Cold War, while also inviting Israel, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey to become even more heavily involved than they currently are. Such a broadening of the conflict is in nobody’s interests.

The Syrian government with support from its Russian, Iranian, and Lebanese allies has embarked on a major military operation to retake parts of Syria’s northern governorate of Idlib. As it does so, the US and its regional allies are rushing to position themselves to ensure the permanent partition of Syria is achieved. 

As Syrian forces push deeper into Idlib they have come up against a large amount of foreign-provided weaponry including US anti-tank missiles and even fleets of armored vehicles including Panthera F9 armored personnel carriers – joint-developed by the UAE and Ukraine and manufactured in Turkey.

Despite the formidable arsenal provided to militants – the majority of which fight under the banner of Al Qaeda and its affiliates – Syria and its allies maintain air superiority. The US tried – and failed – to establish what US policymakers have called a “safe haven” or “buffer zone” in northern Syria where US military might could provide shelter for militants from Syrian and Russian airpower… … …

… … …And while US efforts to destroy Syria have fallen short, the US now permanently occupies territory within one of Iran’s closest and most important regional allies. Like a splinter under the skin turning septic, the US occupation will remain a constant potential source of wider infection both for Syria and the rest of the region.

The successes or failures of both Syria and its allies and Turkey in northern Syria over the following weeks and months will determine just how big a splinter is left as the conflict enters its final phases.

Turkey launched the “Olive Branch” military operation against the Kurdish region of Afrin, north-west of Syria. The code name was released by the Turkish Chief of Staff who explained that the operation aims to prevent the spread of the People’s Protection Units and the Democratic Union Party along the Syrian borders with Turkey, which represented a menace to the Turkish national security.

The US attitude towards the Kurds in Afrin was quite interesting, because the US General Vottel declared himself “not concerned about what is happening in the Kurdish enclave in the north-west of Syria” where Washington used the Kurds to attack ISIS. It is no longer surprising that the US look after its interests rather than its allies, as indeed happened in Kurdistan Iraq when Erbil declared its independence; it was promptly abandoned by the US.

But what are the details agreed before the beginning of the operation, allowing Turkey to venture into an area under the Russian control? And how did things get so far, pushing Turkey to venture into an area under Russian influence with military police, and following a clear threat from Damascus to shoot down any Turkish aircraft, with Russia strengthening its positions inside the city the day before the beginning of the Turkish operation “Olive Branch” against Afrin?

The Turkish armed forces have advanced into Azaz region East of Afrin within the framework of the Olive Branch Operation in Northern Syria, a Turkish media outlet reported on Monday.
The state-run Anadolu news agency reported that the Turkish army has continued its ground assault as the Olive Branch Operation entered its third day.

Anadolu said that the army men have advanced into the Azaz region too to expand the scope of the operation.

President Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday that Turkey would not take a step back from the operation in the Afrin region. He also said that Ankara had an agreement with Russia regarding its military operation against a US-backed Kurdish militia.

After negotiations between Russia/Syria and the Kurds of Afrin had failed, the Russian side made a deal with Turkey. Now Turkey attacks Afrin while everyone else looks aside. The main impetus for this development was the announcement of a U.S. occupation in north-east Syria with the help of the Kurdish YPG/PKK. The occupation strategy is already failing. The Kurds made the false choice. They will be the losers of this game.

Turkey is now attacking the Afrin canton in full force. With help from one George Orwell the operation was dubbed “Olive Branch”.

The Turkish operation to go after Afrin was triggered by two events. The more important one was the U.S. announcement of a permanent occupation of north-east Syria with the help of a 30,000 men strong SDF “border protection force” consisting of mainly Kurds and some Arabs who earlier fought under ISIS.

The U.S. move was amateurish. It ignored the security needs of its NATO ally Turkey in exchange for an illegal and unsustainable occupation of north-east Syria. Secretary of State Tillerson tried to calm the Turks by claiming that the “border protection force” was not for border protection.

A second motive for the Turkish operation was the success of the Syrian army in the east-Idleb where “Free Syrian Army” and al-Qaeda Takfiris supported by Turkey were eliminated by Syrian Army attacks… … …

The Syrian war is taking a momentous turn with a full-fledged Turkish military operation on the northern Syrian town of Afrin having begun on Saturday. President Recep Erdogan announced today that a ground operation has also been launched alongside artillery bombardment and air strikes. He said an operation against the town of Manbij, some 140 miles to the east, will follow later.

Afrin and Manbij are presently controlled by the Syrian Kurdish forces aligned with the US. The US, which has 5 bases in northern Syria in the territories controlled by the Kurdish militia, has directly helped the occupation of Manbij by the Kurdish militia in 2016. Thus, the Turkish operation signifies a strategic defiance of the US. Washington had repeatedly urged Ankara against making any military moves against the Kurdish militia.

But what finally proved decisive seems to be the US plan to create a 30000-strong Kurdish force in northern Syria with the intention to use it as a proxy. Erdogan senses that the US is going ahead with the project to create a Kurdish enclave in northern Syria along the Turkish border as a strategic hub for its future interventions in Syria and Iraq. Of course, such a Kurdistan enclave will pose a long-term national security threat to Turkey by giving fillip to Kurdish separatists in Turkey. Erdogan kept pleading with Washington not to align with the Kurds but of no avail and has now decided to take matters into his hands.

U.S. occupation forces set to remain in Syria despite Daesh elimination

The U.S. is preparing to legitimize the Peshmerga and Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) by declaring several small countries in Iraq and Syria, a Turkish daily reported on Saturday.

Yeni Safak newspaper quoted a commander who held a senior position in the Syrian army for an extended period of time and shifted to opposition ranks in 2013 as saying, “I was told that in the second half of 2018, a total of seven boutique states would be declared in Syria and Iraq”.

“The Americans who met with us told us that they were our allies and that if we followed their conditions the opposition would be more strongly supported in line with the 2012 vision. America’s aim is to enable Israel to gain more of the Lebanon-Syria border and block Hezbollah’s passageway”, said the opposition commander, who highlighted that federal status would be granted along the Golan and as-Sweida line for Israel’s security and the security of the Druze community was a guise.

According to Yeni Safak, the U.S. included:

-the Latakia-Tartus-Damascus line in the Nusayri federal region
-the Sweida-Golan-Quneitra line for the Druze community
-Aleppo, Idlib and Hama were allocated to the Sunnis (in the divisive map plotted by the US)

In a move that surprised many observers of the ongoing war for Deir Ezzor province, the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) handed over one of Syria’s largest gas fields to Russian forces on Thursday, possibly as the result of unprecedented direct talks between high ranking Russian officials and Kurdish leaders in Qamishli in northeastern Syria.

On Wednesday the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister was spotted in the self-declared Kurdish autonomous zone of Rojava to meet with Kurdish and Syrian leaders in the northern city of Qamishli (based on Zero Hedge’s own sources, also confirmed by other analysts). It is very likely that Thursday’s Conoco gas field handover was the result of this historic, yet unofficial, face-to-face meeting.

As we suggested before, Kurdish interests don’t lie with Washington but with Damascus, ready to establish a constructive dialogue with them if they stop being seduced by the US’ temporary interest in the Levant. So the Conoco field handover could mean that either the Syrian Kurds now see the writing on the wall (after observing events in Iraq) and know the US will eventually drop them (thus seeing the need to start directly dealing with Syria-Russia), or perhaps that the US has now been forced to save face and make good on its officially stated anti-ISIS goals… … …

Every major Kurdish political group in the region has longstanding ties to Israel. It’s all linked to major ethnic violence against Arabs, Turkmens, Aramaeans, and Assyrians. From the PKK in Turkey to the PYD and YPG in Syria, PJAK in Iran to the most notorious of them all, the Barzani-Talabani mafia regime (KRG/Peshmerga) in northern Iraq.

The West claims that the Kurds are one of the most moral and dignified forces in the Middle East fighting against Daesh. But if their focus is on defeating Daesh, as they claim, why are they committing genocide against Syrians in the process? Taking this into consideration, it is hard to justify the West’s persistent claim that armed Kurdish terrorist groups are trying to help Syria. The reality on the ground contradicts these empty compliments, which the West uses to save face while supporting these terrorist organizations. This false narrative was in fact used to arm the Kurds in Syria in order to create instability and division.

In a last-ditch effort to continue the war in Syria and destroy all of the progress that has been made to return stability to the country, the United States is combining its ‘on the ground’ terrorist proxies to create a formidable force against the Syrian Arab Army and its allies. Testimonies, pictures, investigations, and confessions have all brought to light a claim that cooperation between the SDF and other terrorist factions exists in Syria, which has been previously stated by myself and others that are following the Syrian conflict closely.

The Kurds are allied with Syria’s fiercest enemy – Israel – whose planned Greater Israel project coincidentally aligns almost perfectly with the Kurds’ plans for “Kurdistan.”

In today’s case, the Kurds are being used by NATO and Israel to fulfill the modern-day colonialist aim of breaking up large states like Iraq into statelets to ensure geopolitical goals. When nations are divided into smaller statelets, they are easier to conquer by foreign entities. This is a signature move that powerful imperialist nations use for the purpose of colonizing smaller and less influential nations. Ever since the United States began openly arming and working with Kurdish fanatics in Syria under the guise of “fighting ISIS,” Turkey has shown signs of irritation, concern, and outright anger towards America. This is because the Turks fear any support given to Kurds from outside forces will embolden them to renew their fight for a Kurdistan entity carved out of Turkish territory. Indeed, Turkey is also concerned that any arming of the YPG/PYD forces in Syria will necessarily act as a conduit for weapons making their way to the PKK in Turkey. 

Indeed, in a meeting of the Turkish National Security Council on Monday, a statement was released alleging that weapons given by the U.S. to the YPG had found their way to PKK fighters. “This shows that both are the same organization,” the statement said. It also added that other countries were using a “double standard” for how the treat terror groups, a rather obvious reference to the United States and its position on Kurdish fighters. 

Thus, after a series of diplomatic spats, the relationship between Turkey and the United States has become more and more tense and less reliable than at other time during the course of the Syrian crisis with Turkey warming up to Russia on top of an icier relationship with the U.S. 

On Monday, however, Turkish papers released a bombshell article revealing the number and location of U.S. bases inside Syria, even listing the number of troops housed in each base. Only last week, I reported that a number of sources had put the number of U.S. bases in Syria as up to nine. The Turkish report raises the count of American bases to ten.

The media is abuzz with news that the Caliph of Cockadoodledoo is not dead, but alive, somewhere in Syria.  It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that that area in Syria will be where American forces and allies are operating.  After all, what could possibly be more dramatic than Donald Trump’s victory over the modern world’s eidos of evil, Abu Bakr Al-Baghdaadi.  His triumph will be greater than Obama’s when the former president basked onanistically in his own self-made glory after assassinating the malevolent, Usaamaa Bin Laadin.

I reported that Al-Baghdaadi was killed 1 year ago by the Syrian Air Force at Al-Mayaadeen.  I hold to my report and consider the issue closed.  It is my argument that the Saddamist Iraqi officers running ISIS are deliberately concealing his death the way the Taliban concealed the death of their leader, Mullah Umar.  If I am wrong, then, I will own up to it.  Yet, I can sense the vibrations of falsehood and deceit all around me.  Is it possible that the Caliph is the ultimate “one hit wonder”?  He has only been seen one time since his sleep-inducing speech at the Al-Noori Mosque in Mosul.

Isn’t it interesting how “sources” emanating from the Kurds in Iraq are trumpeting his rebirth.  Why, it would seem the Americans are planning to bomb Al-Raqqa and conveniently find that one of their bombs landed right on the cringing Caliph turning him into thousands of unidentifiable particles.  Pieces of his body will be flown to England or Germany where unnamed, anonymous, forensic specialists will be able to “confirm” the identity of this blackguard……………………………………….

Iran, Turkey and Russia have signed a memorandum on the creation of four security zones in Syria during another round of the peace talks in Astana on May 4.

According to the document, security zones were proposed in the province of Idlib, in the area north of the city of Homs, in Eastern Ghouta near Damascus and in southern Syria.

“Guarantors within five days after signing the memorandum will create a working group at the level of authorized representatives to determine the boundaries of disarmament, areas of tension and security areas, as well as to address technical issues related to the implementation of the memorandum,” the text of the document reads.

All technical issues, including borders of the zones, should be solved until May 22. The next round of the Astana peace talks will take place in mid-July when the trilateral group will report about the process of the reconciliation.

If the initiative achieves at least partly success, this will likely mean that in May or June the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allied forces, backed up by Russia and Iran, will launch a large operation against ISIS (ISIL, Daesh) in central Syria, aiming to reach the key city of Deir Ezzor besieged by ISIS. However, these will be possible only if the situation near Damascus, Daraa and Homs will be calm.

A Russian military adviser, Alexei Buchelnikov, was killed in Syria by a sniper from the ranks of militants, the Russian Defense Ministry announced on May 2. Buchelnikov was “a member of the group that had been training personnel of the Syrian artillery units.”

Experts note that according to photo and video evidence the Russian military has recently expanded a number of military advisers embedded with Syrian army units as well as intensified efforts aimed at training Syrian military personnel.

These developments came amid a significant increase of the number of U.S. troops and military equipment deployed in the Kurdish-held area in northeastern Syria and embedded with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Meanwhile, Russian military servicemen accompanied with members of the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) have visited the Runbar refugee camp in the Afrin Canton, a YPG-held area in northwestern Syria. Earlier this week, the camp came under shelling from Turkish military forces.

Hundreds of US Marines have arrived in Syria to establish an outpost in support of the operation to retake the city of Raqqa, the de-facto Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) capital in the country, the US-led coalition confirmed on Thursday.

“We are talking about an additional 400 or so forces in total, and they will be there for a temporary period,” coalition spokesman US Air Force Colonel John Dorrian said.

The Washington Post, which was the first to break the news citing anonymous defense officials, stated that the marines will be working to establish an outpost from which they can fire artillery in support of the fight for Raqqa.

According to the newspaper, the new deployment is part of an amphibious task force of the 11th US Marine Expeditionary Unit, which left San Diego on Navy ships in October. It includes part of an artillery battery that can fire 155mm shells from M777 Howitzers.

The Washington Post said that the marines will be based within no more than 32km (20 miles) from the frontline outside Raqqa, as that is the maximum range of their artillery………………………..

We had expected a Syrian Army “Election Campaign”, a large size attack on Al Bab or east-Aleppo. That did not happen despite the right “assets” being in place and I have heard no reason yet why it was delayed.

The Russian aircraft carrier group, which was expected last Friday along the Syrian coast, will only arrive this evening. It must have intentionally slowed its travel. There has been no single Syrian or Russian airstrike on east-Aleppo in last 21 days.

“Rebel” shelling of west-Aleppo has not stopped for a day and caused many casualties. That will now change. One Russia source claims the Russian fleet will engage immediately. NOTAMs, NOtices To Air Men, about imminent operations on Syria’s west-coast have been released.

The declared areas and times of operation correspond to a campaign, not a single strike.

The Syrian capital is safe for now and its people can live a rather normal life without fear of being killed in the next minute by some random grenade.

A significant number of troops will become available when all the small rebel areas around the capital are gone. Those can be used in future campaigns.

The frontline strength of the Syrian army in critical areas will increase and its maneuver force will become more powerful and efficient….>>>…

The General Command of the Army and Armed Forces said that the Asayish, the military wing of the Kurdistan Workers Party, has recently escalated its provocative actions in Hasaka city, attacking state establishments, stealing oil and cotton, disrupting examinations, carrying out abductions, and causing a state of chaos and instability.

In a statement on Friday, the General Command said that these actions took a more dangerous turn as the Asayish encircled Hasaka city, shelled it with artillery and tanks, and targeted Syrian Arab Army positions in it, claiming the lives of a number of military personnel and civilians.

Syria on Wednesday strongly condemned the presence of French and German special forces in Ain al-Arab and Manbij areas.

In a statement to SANA, an official source at Foreign and Expatriates Ministry considered this presence as a blatant interference, a flagrant violation of UN Charter’s principles and an overt unjustified aggression on the sovereignty and independence of Syria.

”Commenting on news circulated regarding the presence of groups of French and German special forces in Ain al-Arab and Manbij areas on the Syrian territories, the Syrian Arab Republic vehemently condemns this blatant interference that constitutes a flagrant violation of UN Charter’s principles and an overt unjustified aggression on the sovereignty and independence of Syria,” the source said.

It added that claiming that this violation comes within counterterrorism process cannot delude any one because the active and legitimate counterterrorism requires cooperation with the legitimate Syrian Government, whose army and people are fighting terrorism on each inch of the Syrian territory providing great sacrifices to cleanse the country of terrorism which constitutes a serious threat to the entire security and stability of the world.

The region of Al Hasakah, which the Kurdish Nationalist Party (PYD) and its military wing YPG have declared a Kurdish federal state, does not have a Kurdish majority. Al Hasakah Governorate is a mosaic of Assyrian Christians, Armenians, Turkmen, Kurds and Bedouin Arabs.

Of the 1.5 million population of Al Hasakah, only 40% are ethnically Kurdish. Moreover, parts of Al Hasakah Governorate, such as Al Hasakah district, is less than 15% Kurdish (!).

Russia and Syria claimed surprise when the Kurdish defense forces withdrew from positions around Aleppo, shuttling in al Nusra forces who are now not only advised by Turkish military but actually include all Turkish units now operating inside Syria itself.

Based on what we now see from the Raqqah drive by the Kurds from the North, another phony attack on ISIS, and the new clear cooperative agreement between ISIS and al Nusra, we know this for sure.

Units of Kurdish militia have abandoned defenses in Aleppo’s Sheikh Maqsood and retreated, a spokesman for the Russian center for reconciliation of opposing sides in Syria said on Saturday.

Over the past 24 hours, terrorists delivered strikes from multiple rocket launchers, mortars and anti-aircraft guns on the residential areas of Handrat, Sheikh Maqsood, al-Muhafaza, al-Zahraa and al-Nayrab airport in the city of Aleppo.

Also, the residential localities of Kinsibba and Nahshebba in the Latakia region and Fua and Kafr Haya in the Idlib region came under shelling.

The meeting between American, Turkish, Israeli and SDF representatives, joined by military operational leaders of the Free Syrian Army, ISIS and al Nusra, outlined a staged “theatrical” chain of events intended to move ISIS ostensibly out of Northern Syria and replace them with a Turkish/Israeli consortium which has, in actuality, managed ISIS all along.

This schedule, we believe, was arranged for in Azaz, indicating full cooperation between the US, Turkey, Israel and terrorist forces in both Syria and Iraq, and that Kurdish forces are fully complicit.

Some 250 US Marines have come to the Syrian town of Hasaka, northwest of the country, reports the television channel Al Arabiya.

According to available information, the transfer of military personnel took place in several private transport planes.

In addition to the Marines, the Pentagon has also moved to that location heavy military equipment.

These forces would be directed to the town of Tal Abyad, Raqqa province where the Kurdish militias have launched an offensive against Daesh in the provincial capital of the Raqqa governorate…

Russia will react by pounding terrorists in Raqa and Deir-Ezzor

US-Russian showdown is looming in the horizon after the arrival of 250 US special operations forces to Hasakeh, Syria, and the number is believed to reach 500 in the coming days.

European Department for Security and Information Secretary General Haissam Bou Said divulged that US special operations forces dispatched to Rumelan, province of Hasakeh, in Syria were tasked with “preparing for a ground invasion if and when the truce fails”.

US officials have openly spoken about plan B and said “Syrian army will be banned from realizing a complete victory, and the U.S. will continue supporting the moderate opposition”.

The US will rely on its military bases in Incerlik, Turkey and al Anabar, Iraq to combine a military coalition under the umbrella of the NATO if plan B relating to the federal affairs is not being implemented.

Turkey want to seize the border town of Manbij in Aleppo to guarantee that ISIS can move easily in and out of Syria. Turkey have also ambitions to seize the city of Mosel in Iraq.

General Haissam Bou Said, said that the first task of the 250 special operations forces and military experts sent to Hasaka is to guarantee a better implementation of the ground operations aimed at fighting ISIS.

However, the second task will be a formation of a pre-emptive military coalition to confront the Syrian army, Iran and Russia if plan B is not being translated into three federal cantons in Syria.

Turkey is to deploy US rocket launchers on its border that will put Syria’s strategic city Aleppo within firing range. The move suggests that Turkey is soliciting direct American military intervention in the Syrian war.

The immediate pretext for the US firepower is the deadly shelling of the Turkish border town of Kilis at the weekend, apparently by the Islamic State (IS or Daesh) terror group. Turkish authorities claimed that the militants fired missiles from Syrian territory.

“Our main target is to clear Daesh from a 98-kilometer-long border area… When this is achieved, a safe zone would be naturally formed for Syrian refugees,” added the foreign minister.

The American rocket system greatly extends the firing range from Turkey into Syria. Turkish artillery already in place is said to have only a range of 40 km, whereas the HIMARS guided missiles can reach up to 300 km.
The notable thing about these numbers is that the key battleground city of Aleppo is less than 60 km from the Turkish town of Kilis where the HIMARS will be deployed, well within their firing range.

As the main covert sponsors, Turkey and Saudi Arabia in particular stand to lose if Aleppo falls. Their investment in toppling the Assad government, with billions of dollars, will have been blown.

Washington, London and Paris are also complicit in sponsoring the covert war for regime change, politically and militarily, but arguably it is their regional clients, Turkey and Saudi Arabia, which stand to lose most from defeat.
